Why did it fail to prolong the dream

Last night i had what i guess was a lucid, i don't know if i realized if it was a dream or not. But during the dream it popped in my mind to do one of the methods i learned from this site to prolong the dream, i felt the dream fading so then i started to rub my hands together and it seemed to have worked but i only did it for about 10 seconds or less. Then i had a weird feeling that i can't describe but it seemed as if the dream was fading again, and then the dreaded thing happend that always ends my dreams, i made a mistake and closed my eyes. Why didn't the hand rubbing method work?

Chances are you weren't lucid, or at least weren't very lucid. The fact that you weren't very aware meant you couldn't focus on your senses. That's all the hand rubbing is for, is to make sure you focus on your dream senses. Rub your hands, look around, notice how vivid everything is, hear the wind, etc etc. It's all to engage your dream senses.

If you weren't trying to engage your dream senses, because you weren't aware, weren't focusing on them, then it won't help anything. It's like doing an RC without thinking that a successful RC will mean that your dreaming, it's an action from memory without purpose.

Thanks, that's very logical because i remember in my dream that i couldn't focus my senses because i was walking around not knowing what to do, and i felt kind of dazed.

It's possible to make a semi lucid dream into a more logical lucid dream. Next time if that happens try to remember to engage your senses, and focus on how vivid everything is. Some dreams seem to be set on not letting you be lucid, but it's definitely worth it.

Try it next time you have a semi lucid.
