      Pre plotting dreams?

Once, a long time ago I had talked a dream I wanted to have in story form onto a tape and used what I thought were hypnosis techniques to visualize this recording as I listened to it over and over. It was rather frustrating and I was always fighting with myself. At any rate it did produce a similar dream.

Has anyone else tried this and what has been your technique?

The reason I ask is because a lot of the time when I am in a dream and lucid or 'aware' that the surroundings are not real I am unable to have any adventure because I can't think of a plot!

Oh, and I am new. Just joined. Been a lucid dreamer and dream controler for several years off and on. Very lazy about dream journals and that is too bad because some dreams are very funny. Mainly like to explore the environment and have adventures with characters from books and movies though I want to know why sometimes they appear effortlessly and others they do not.

Glad to see this board. Hope it is active and serious. This is my first visit to the board or this website.

Have read LaBerge's book and Garfield and one or two others. Have hollucinated upon awakening off and on since early childhood, anyone else?? Have even induced some. Would rather dream though.

      Hi and welcome

I haven't been having much luck lately with LD's but I've always tried to 'program' my dreams, or make myself dream about certain topics when I go to sleep. I very rarely have any luck though. I once was sort of close, told myself before going to sleep that I'd dream about a character from a book I read, and his ummm bed heh and I actually did dream about this character and his bed. Only that there were several MEN in the bed!!!

My subconscious certainly has a good sense of humour.

Most of the time my mind likes to play tricks with me too. I'll want to dream of for example, vampires. And I won't dream of vampires, but I might dream of something like an aligator or shark, something with lots of pointy teeth. See what I have to put up with? lol

Hey now!! The beauty who sleeps??

ok, back on topic.. dreamship, I've never had much success with pre plotting a non-lucid dream but the idea of listening to a recording of what you'd like to dream about is an interesting one and I'll have to try it.

      Welcome to the forum!

      Hello!

Well, to explain a bit about my nonlucid dreams. I have always had an over active imagination and was always daydreaming in school and always fantasizing. I guess this has carried over into ALL my dreams because I naturaly control them and I do not have to be lucid in the sense that I say 'hey this is a dream! I can do anything!' I just seem to naturally know I can because of all the daytime practice. Sometimes I do think that it would be benificial to know it is a dream too because if I want to do something in particular I have to have that level of awareness and not just influence the dream and whatever happens just play with it. Sometimes that is more fun than total control. I guess that is all about balance. Like when you want to dream about vampires but get sharks! Like I wanted to dream about the headless horseman from the movie with Johnny and dreamed instead about a headless female Grim Reaper. The headless femal Grim reaper was a mix of the headless horseman idea and the character Suzan from the Discworld novels. I try to dream about Death, the Discworld Grim Reaper, but it is very hard to see a 'living' skeleton in black robes and it is even harder to see his horse because I know nothing of horses except some riding lessons and pictures. I suppose I could just meditate on Grim Reaper pictures and such. Or I might be seeing him like the books all say. In the books mortals have a hard time seeing him because they are afraid even though Death in the Discworld books is a really nice guy.

At any rate, this 'getting close but no cigar' thing is why I thought that pre programming your dreams with a script and some meditating or concentrating on images of people you want to dream about might be a good idea. But it is not easy for me because I can't seem to relax.

I might have tried too hard and made too long of a script!! Anyone want to work on some sort of preprogram testing? I think I will try it again, this time with a much shorter script.
