Entered a white void while trying to fly

So in my dream I walked into the bathroom and I felt a little bit scared of the mirror and I could see out of the corner of my eye that my reflection looked weird which tipped me off to the fact that I was dreaming. I closed my eyes and tried to fly through the ceiling which felt initially successful because I felt myself phase through the ceiling I felt surrounded by nothingness. I opened my eyes and all I could see was white, I couldn't see my own hands or anything. I felt myself moving, so I tried to visualize where I wanted to go. That didn't work, so I tried to go as fast as I could so I would rip through the void and go into a dream, and while I felt myself speed up all that happened was I went into blackness and felt like I was hurtling through space(flipping end over end). This continued until I felt more and more connected to my real body and by the end of the process I was awake. What should I do next time to avoid/fix a situation like this?

      Some tips here:

Closing your eyes is usually bad. Nothing is stable in a dream, so you can't be sure that the dream will be the same when you open them.
What happened to you happens fairly often to me in lucids when I close my eyes. I think it's just poor visualization skills.
What you experienced was probably a false-awakening into sleep paralysis, and eventually waking up.

Also, next time try 'reaching down and feeling the ground beneath you'... it usually helps in re-stabilizing for me

You have entered the Land of Nothing. You are trapped there forever with no way out!

Nah, just messing with you. That shouldn't happen very often, so don't worry. Good luck on your next lucids!

EDIT(S): You probably entered the void when you thought there was nothing, and thoughts become "reality" in dreams. BTW, like the name!

Yea, usually trying to just go through solid objects doesn't work too well for me. I try the indirect approach, like turning around and imagining a window or door to open somewhere, THEN try flying. Or even just levitating is enough for me. I kind of see the walls and ceilings in my dreams as signs that I'm confined within my dreams. I mean, I can't remember a single Lucid where I didn't want to be outside at some point.

Also, as other people already said, closing your eyes is usually a bad thing. Try and focus on where you're going actively, that way you know exactly where you're levitating to instead of into the white void OF DESPAIR AND NO RETURN! (lol)
      Goals:
Have a Lucid: [x] .. Fly [X] .. Phase through walls: [_] (Almost! I pulled a wall apart. . . D: ) .. Gain full control of a dream: [X] (I'd say freezing time is pretty controlled...) .. Maintain ~10 minutes of full lucidity [_] .. Epic escape on foot from police in a highly urban and industrial city that actually ends up with me getting away [_] .. Go Lucid Skiing down a Double Black Diamond[_]

This sounds like you might have actually been passing out of REM sleep. I often do little 15-45 minute light sleeps during the day. If I didn't get a good night's sleep or took melatonin the night before, I sometimes have a bit of REM sleep. I pretty much do it like a WILD without the intent to lucid--I'm just conscious of my mind's activity. I try and imagine things and they are often in a black void until I drop into REM, at which point things take clarity and a setting.

This is just my attempt at a neurological cause, though. If you had concerns there wouldn't be anything there, that may have manifested itself.
