Tales of Dream Confidence

I'd love to have us start a continuing thread of tales of dream confidence found, or possibly never lost. It should include NO stories of lack of confidence - where your doubt holds you back. The point is to have a collection of stories that we can trust and make our own in order to gain confidence - and possibly outweigh any personal experience we have where the confidence didn't shine through.

My favorite quote is "Believe that you can, or believe that you can't. Either way - you are right." Anyone who has lucid dreamed can see this concept played out for themselves with total clarity at each step or thought during the dream. Let this be a place where we collect stories of believing that we can - so that we can remind ourselves that that is the true nature of dreaming. We just need practice, and patience, and a controlled attitude to get us there. But - we also need support and stories to remind us where there is.

The other day - I read a random dream from Jake's Journal:
i’m on the outskirts of some very new age city. the buildings are really tall in the center and everyone rides motorcycles. i feel like i’m suppose to assassinate someone. i look down at myself and i’m in a black outfit. i’m a ninja. i think to myself, “this is too weird.” i become lucid. i laugh to myself because hey i’m a ninja. i start spinning and turn my clothes into a pirate outfit. my pants are all ragged and i don’t have a shirt on. i have all sorts of tattoos on my body. i have an axe and a pistol. my hair is long and messy. it keeps getting in my face so i cut it off with the axe. once i get attire sorted out i fly to the center of the city for my target. i stay low to the ground. when i get in the buildings everything gets really dark. i see one person with a light emanating around him. he’s really short, bald and fat. he’s wearing a white suit. i assume that this is my target. i trail him for a while. staying in the shadows so he wont see me. there’s a police man on every corner and my target took it upon himself to greet everyone of them. for a short cut he takes a back alley, i follow. halfway down the alley he leans against a wall. he grabs his chest like he’s having a heart attack. this is where i spring my attack. i tackle him and we go rolling for a couple feet. i cover his mouth with my hand and tell him that he wont hurt anymore. he’s crying. this makes me feel real sad. i know i’m dreaming and i know this guy doesn’t exist but i can’t bring myself to kill him. i ask him if he knows anyone who’s more evil than him. he says, “the wizard.” i tell him to lead me to the wizard. i follow him through the city to another back alley. he tells me to go down the alley and the wizard will be there with his friends. i go down the alley. the wizard is this little guy with a blue robe and a blue wizard hat. he has to be about 2 feet tall and 2 feet around. he’s just a little ball. i scoff at him and his little friends. i tell them that i’m here to kill the wizard and it’s ion their best interest to step aside unless they want to get punted like a soccer ball. the wizard steps forward, then shots straight up and out of the buildings i follow. he stops about 100 yards above the buildings. i tell him running will only piss me off. i tell him that i’m just toying with him because i can’t think of anything better to do. he starts glowing. then the glow disappears and he now has a red and white ball in his hands. he throws it at me. i let it hit my chest. i look up, smile, and say, “arrr, you’re going to have to do better than that.” the little wizard starts to fly away. i chase him through the city for a little while. i decide to end it. i throw the axe and it sticks in his back. he falls from flight and lands on the road. i follow, retrieve my axe and start exploring the city. it was fun. i wake up.
I remember as I was reading it - being worried for Jake that maybe the wizard would have an unexpected trick up his sleeve. Maybe the wizard would pull something before Jake had a chance to react. Maybe this. Maybe that. But - Jake clearly had no such doubts. He knew the whole time that it was his world - and that was that.

Last night - I had the feeling that I was dreaming - but I wasn't totally sure. I made some feeble attempts at flying - but they weren't happening - so I was stuck in the land of not knowing. Then I remembered Jake and the wizard. I literally knew it was a dream - and that flying through the wall took nothing but that knowledge. Bam. I was off.

For obvious reasons - this particular forum has subject after subject of I can't. Hopefully this can be the place where we can rebalance ourselves with tales of I can - or tales of dream confidence.

If you agree with the idea - please wait to reply with a story that helps this grow. If you disagree - please do as you see fit. Thanks!
Believe that you can or believe that you can't. Either way, you're right.

This might be better in the dream journal forum. It is a nice idea though.

Yea I started a thread to take a poll so to speak for people who would like to have a forum on nightmares. The results where negative. But I do think you can take just about any dream and put it into one of two categories. Like you said
Tales of Dream Confidence Witch would relate to a positive experience or the other a nightmare that would be in a category of negative thoughts or undesirable experiences. To me they seem fundamentally different and should be treaded so. The nature of dreams seems to be mixed and I think the nature of man would be to want to sort out any confusion such as what type of dream are you having and how to deal with it. So yes I think you’re on the right track and I hope others can see the reasoning.

My thoughts:

I believe tales of dream confidence can arise from both nightmares or pleasant dreams. In a nightmare - wolves might come out of nowhere and start gnawing on my arm when the idea of jake and his wizard come to mind. I laugh at the dream - with true understanding. The teeth of the wolves fall out and my arm is fine and the wolves start licking my wounds. Or - I am flying and it is nice and pleasant in general - but a pesky dream character keeps holding me back. Again - I remember jake and the wizard. I remember that it is my world. The dream character tries to hold on but slips away. I am off on a new adventure. The point is rememberance. Remembering that it is your world. Remembering that you are in complete control when you know you are in complete control. Remembering patience. Remembering focus. Remembering to relax. Remembering the answers to all the questions that are asked in this forum on Dream Control. And finally - just being.
It's my personal opinion that the forum on "Dream Control" is the perfect place for this - because these stories will contain all the answers - with none of the doubts. Or - examples of doubts along with their being overcome right alongside. Basically - I'm just trying to give people confidence - without all the doubt. That's all we need.
For many of us - we never had a lucid dream until we heard it was possible. The more support we had in believing it to be possible - the easier it was to have our first experience. Imagine if all of us were raised in families and in schools where everyone talked about lucid dreaming as if it was as normal as learning how to ride a bicycle. Everyone grew up knowing that lucid dreaming was available to them. You may have had much more practice by now. I know I would.

Anyway - I am trying to do the same thing - but with knowledge about controlled lucidity. I just want the control to be common knowledge - so it is simpler for people to get there. Or better yet - for some - simpler for people to never fall away from it. Believe that you can. You can.
Believe that you can or believe that you can't. Either way, you're right.
