false wake up's.....First post, first Ld, scared me

Hi there, I visited this site yesterday for the first time and oddly enough I had my first lucid dream last night. I've always had vivid meaningful dreams but I didn't think I would be able to do this so soon.

My boyfriend who I was with for 4 years and who I was to spend the rest of my life with died by suicide 2 years ago in our bathroom.

I don't get to dream of him much but last night I did. There was alot to the dream but I'll exlplain the part I had trouble with, I remember following Johnny and another girl walking through the most painful stickerbushes-they were gouging (I felt excruciating pain) . Once on the road I was trying to catch up with them, I was saying "Johnny come here where are you going"? It suddenly dawned on me that Johnny died and it must be a lucid dream( I remember thinking don't wake up). When I realized I could take control of the situation, the first thing I thought of was I'm gonna make him turn around and come back to me-I'm gonna have sex with him (I'm not a perv and I hope this is not offensive). Then for a split second I remember kind of hoping that he didn't turn into something scary. Well he turned around and sure enough it wasn't his face-there was some kind of hood over his head and his face was all blackened and very scary. I thought wake up wake up! The problem was that I woke up in another dream. The only lucid part of my dream was the point that I realized Johnny was dead until my false wake up when I was tricked into thinking I wasn't dreaming. I woke up a few times during that dream but when I went back to sleep, It continued.

I didn't get to write it all down immediately because my weenie dog had a seizure right when I finally got up. Does anyone else have false wake ups to trick you out of having a lucid dream?

Nicely done! My first lucid dream was pretty much the same - short flicker of awareness followed by a false awakening.

false awakenings are quite common. They are a blessing and a curse. If you do a reality check every time you wake up they will grant you more lucid dreams.

      Dear Sisserface,

My condolences regarding your departed boyfriend.

False Awakenings are the certain byproduct of Lucid Dreaming done wrongly. You see, it is the marching cadence of the Lucid Dream Movement that Lucidity must be used to "control the Dream", that is, to actively interrupt and interfere with Dream Content.

Notice what you attempted to do in your own dream the moment you became Lucid. You attempted to go beyond making choices for your own dream character -- playing by the rules of Life as we know it -- and you attempted to take the place of God -- to reconstruct the dream to your own suiting.

But what about the Higher Intelligence -- the Higher Mind -- that formulated this Dream. Do you suppose that It appreciated you appropriating this Dream -- shutting down all the meaning it may have had for you.

You know, one can put Lucidity to an actual positive use. One does not have to use it as a weapon against one's Higher Mind for the destruction of all Collective Conscious Content and the irradication of all messages from the Spirit. One can use Lucidity to inform you that while in a Dream you should be at one's best behavior. That one should behave as one would behave if one were perfect in morality and bravery. For knowing that one is in a Dream give us Special Knowledge -- that we cannot be killed and that all choices are open to us. But there are rules! We can control our own actions. We can make our own choices. But we must keep our sticky fingers off of Dream Content. We must not cast controlling spells over the other Dream Characters. That is cheating.

How do we know we have cheated? We get false awakenings.

Anyway, regarding your dream, before you spoiled it. You were going throw briars and thorns to follow your boyfriend. This signifies that there was not a Path for you. This signifies that you are following beyond any provisions for you to follow -- quite forcing your way through. His being paired off with another lady is not to make you jealous, but only to show you that in his present state, he is lacking for nothing. It is not that he has found happiness without you, but he is now happy. He has found peace. What happened when you attempted to pull him back, by some equivalent of sorcery and witchcraft? Well, he became a Ghoul. So let go. Don't pull him down. Remember him well, certainly, but you need to return to your own paths.

      Hey,
Congrats on the LD, or should I say two! As for false awakenings, they technicaly are dreams that can be turned lucid, as Ev mentioned above. Although I cannot consciously recall any false awakenings I've had, I feel it would be a great opportunity for an LD. Oh, and hope you like it at DVs!

yeah I once had 9 false awakenings in a row and they all turned out to be nice LDs,
anyway on that dreaming thing that Leo was talking about, dont get offended by him, he has his religion and beliefs and we have ours. (no offense Leo, I see what you meant by that)

Re: false wake up's.....First post, first Ld, scared me

I would say sorry about your boyfriend's death but I know you must hear that a lot... and that everytime you hear someone say that, you must probably feel sad... so I won't say it.

Well... the only false awakings I recall from which I was lucid was the one when I was 8. I had woken up... and fallen asleep... and I didn't mean to fall asleep... so I started dreaming... and there I was... my sister was leaving... it hurt me and everything... but then it struck me that it was a dream... and I wanted to be awake so I kept yelling "Wake Up! Wake Up!" and then I had a false awakening... and then I checked and made sure I was awake... and because of how fake the dream felt I was mad... lol... I knew I was still asleep, so I kept telling myself to Wake Up... and I kept getting false awakenings... until finally I woke up and said "Finally!" and then I did whatever it was I wanted to do which was the reason I was trying to wake up. That was a pretty cool dream though... and it just dawned me right now... that that was the first time I've ever used RC's because I was trying to wake up... every time I went through a false awakening... I kept making sure I was actually in the waking world. Heh... so I used RC's and didn't even realize it until 6 years later... lol
