      Changing Memories

I was wondering about people's experiences in reenacting and changing old memories, especially traumas.

I've had a few memories that greatly blow my self-esteem, and although I tried visualizing the result to be different, but to dream it would convince my physiology that things happened differently, as well as the emotional compenent being integrated. Although my intellectual one what actually happened will stay intact...or not.

Plz tell me what it's like anyone.

i've never tried anything like that intentionally. I've had dreams where it's tricked me into having false memories. I suppose the best thing you can do is just to forget about that embarrasing past of yours and to get away from things that remind you of it(although the latter is a bit extreme)

trying to erase/changing memories sounds something more for hypnotists and such...Another thing you could do is somehow destroy those brain cells that carry those memories, but i wouldnt really know how you would do that nor advise it >_>

Ha, that would be nice, now I rather want to try changing memories in that manner. I don't know if it is possible, but worth a try.
If that fails, talking it out helps too. If you can find someone you don't know that you can recount these incidents to, they can offer you some new ways of looking at it without judging you. (I'm a fourth year student of psychology )

I too suffer from memories that I am rather ashamed of. The best way I've worked through them is to reflect upon them and how much of a better person I am today than I was back then. Also, if you can blame it on alcohol, drugs, or mental illness, that helps alot too! lol, but seriously....it's better that you remember those things to remind you that you never want them to happen again.

Yeah, that's probably good advice to someone like myself, but it may not help someone who has bad memories of an event that was not their fault.
