Keep waking myself up from LD’s

This is a recurring problem I have every time I become lucid…

Usually when I become lucid, the only thing I can think about is how I’m not actually ‘here’ but in reality asleep. I seem to spend the entire (albeit short) LD thinking about reality and trying not to wake up, which inevitably makes me wake up every time! I know this is probably what you shouldn’t do in a LD, but for some reason it’s very difficult not to. Because of this, my LD’s are only seconds or just a few minutes long.

Would anyone have any advice on what to do about this?

      Thanks!

You need to have more control over your thoughts. I also think about how my body is asleep when I become lucid but it does not wake me up because I do not fully put my focus / attention toward that. It is ok to think about how you know your body is sleeping and you're awake, it gives me a great feeling that I trick my brain. However you must not constanly think about this as then it becomes an intention even if you didn't truly want that. Just like thinking about scary stuff, you don't want a nightmare however if you keep worrying about it eventually it will happen. Don't worry so much about it and enjoy the exprience. There's many different ways to avoid thinking of your physical body when lucid.

      Thanks, ViIe

Yes it’s very odd, that during the day I would think about LD’ing and LD goals etc. and then when I eventually do have a LD, I can’t seem to steer my mind away from reality!

But yes it really makes sense how worrying about waking up or trying too hard not to can actually cause it to happen, when really you should just relax and enjoy the experience, like you said, so I’ll definitely try to work on that. I've read a lot about various ways of 'staying lucid' like trying to engage as many dream senses as possible and trying to stay active in the LD, but I suppose just staying relaxed and focusing on the LD should be a top priority.

If you find yourself thinking a lot in a lucid dream I would try to follow the plot of the dream , many people usually do that when they do not have any ideas to add to the exprience. I would also not look at your ability to wake yourself up constantly as a disadvantage. If my advice does not help and it happens again try to take that opprotunity to cause a DEILD. You know you're going to wake up due to your habit so you can prepare yourself to stay still to cause the DEILD which will give you multiple LD's if successful. That way even if your LD's are short you'll get the option to exprience lucidity at will whenever you want.

      Great advice, thanks.

Sounds like a great idea. I’ve actually DEILDed at least once or twice from LD’s, but when waking up from most of them I never really considered it or tried to do it. It really makes sense though; I’ll definitely try this from now on. I’d imagine that this would also give you more reassurance in the dream, because you would know that if you do happen to wake up, you could probably just re-enter the dream again with little effort, meaning you would easily be able to put more focus and attention into the dream itself.
