If you can gather enough self-awareness, Wisher, and are able to completely remember that you are in a dream and nothing you are experiencing is real, defeating (or, better yet, ignoring) your waking-life expectations should not be a problem.
For example, if while lucid you fully know that you are not actually flying but simply changing your perspective of the world you've created, and that there are no laws of physics to challenge that change, then flight will not be a problem because all waking-life expectations about flying will be meaningless... those intuitive expectations will not even enter the picture. That knowledge, though, only comes with much practice and development of your self-awareness.
In other words, if you know your waking-life expectaions are meaningless in a dream, control is much easier.
