i took control of my dream once i realised it was a dream but not long after it end i decied i would ring my bf to get him to pick me up it had started to ring and then i woke up how come i did and is there anything i can do?

Staying calm helps you to stay lucid. Some times you're mind wonders while in a dream and you have to keep stabalizing the dream.
After a few lucids your dreams should seem longer so don't worry
