I don't know if this would work, but in theory I think it would. And when I eventually have a proper LD I'm going to try this.

But, instead of spinning, how about falling backwards from standing, going through the floor and onto the other side?

I think that would be pretty cool

I've actaully tried that. However I've never went through the floor, I always seem to hit the floor of course it doesn't hurt I guess my confidence level in that area is limited. I've walked through walls and through mirrors with little effort but I have never been able to fall through the floor. Give it a try when you achieve Lucidity becuase your results may be different and I would like to hear about the experience.

This sounds alot trickier than one would think. Our minds are so programmed into believing things...like...the floor is solid...so in your dream you can think ok I'm going to fall through the floor but you'll most likely just end up on your back staring at the ceiling. It's not always easy to trick your mind. When I want to trick my mind in a lucid dream...for example...flying, or going through walls, mirrors, etc. I have to take a moment to sort of....let go. I don't know how else to explain it. Just let go and believe that you can do something, and you just might. As far as changing scenery I don't know how well this would work...you'd probably end up in a dark basement. I'll give it a try though and let you know how it works out.

Dream Characters.

Learn to use them to change scenery, takes all the pressure off of you. I read that somewhere on here, and tried it myself and it worked great.

Another idea is to walk through walls into a new scene. That's what I do.
Reality? Where? Did I miss it?

The only time I've tried to change scene was like this:

I was in my street next to a volvo. I decided I'd try to create an idyllic place, so I just kind of wiped everything off until I was left with a big white space with nothing in it. Then I put in lots of trees and jungle and stuff, but left a little clearing. Then I went and sat down in the clearing.

That does seem tricky and as Aquanina said, its hard to trick your mind. Although it could work for you if you're a good enough lucid dreamer. If you want an easier technique try opening a door and imagining an new scene or just try spinning.

Hope that helps

I find it easier to just run away from where ever I am, imagining where I would rather be, once I turn the corner or stop paying attention to every little bit of my settings the scene changes quite rapidly, I've never tried that falling backwards thing, my confidence in things are quite limited when it comes to things like that so I guess that's probably why

This is not a confidence but "processing power" problem. Your mind simply cant produce new setting fast enough. It gets bogged down with minute details. When you fall backwards you have no control over how fast you are falling. So if the new scene is not ready by the time you reach the floor you will just hit the floor and wont pass through it into new scene.
Same with passing through walls/doors,etc - if by the time you open the door the new scene is not ready you will get some generic extension of the current location or just "the void".

There's another problem - if you are trying to change the dreamscape to another setting while maintaining the current one you are doing too much work, so it is likely to fail. An analogy - you gotta change your internet explorer (or whatever) window to go from dreamviews to google. What can you do? you can :
- go to start > programs > internet explorer, wait for the new window to open, then type in google there, close the dreamviews window and you are in google. This takes too long.
alternatively you can :
-go to address bar and type in google.com < a shortcut that is much easier.

Same thing is with changing the location in a dream - you gotta know the shortcut. It may be different for many people. Some people may have no problem going the long way because of the way their minds are working.

This is very much like what I do, and it works very well. Imagining the new location while letting go of the current one is like taking a shortcut to the google website instead of going the long way. This method worked to get to distant locations as well as to teleport within the existing dreamscape and altering the dreamscape.

Falling backwards usually induces a FA, which could be beneficial in terms of increasing lucid vividness.
