How do I slow things down

I have been working on lucid dreams for a few months now, and have got it down to where I am lucid almost every night. I sleep normally, but wake up for one hour and then take a nap on the couch with the TV on. I always look at the clock and make a metal note of the time. I use reality checks with a watch.

I believe I am having wake-initiated lucid dreams, due to the speed at which I am able to fall asleep, realize I am lucid, and then wake again. It usually never lasts more than 30 minutes, and several times I become aware that I am on the couch.

The problem is, things in my dreams are extremely fast and frantic. I seem to be bound by the dream, with limited control over the environment. I test that I am lucid by stretching my fingers or bending my arm. I have only been able to change the color of one thing, and I woke up feeling like that was very difficult to do. When I try to change things, the dream continues on. It is kind of like I missed a line in a play, and the other characters continue on as if I didn't. It's a very strange sensation, almost unsettling.

Is there something different I should try? I thought that the TV might be a problem, but turning it off decreases the number of lucid dreams I have. And the dreams I have with it off are the same. Any tips?

One good thing that has come of this experiment. I seem to sleep better, and wake more rested and with a happy attitude.
