Same here, I grew up in an old neighborhood with powerlines, I can't seem to get past those when I have a Lucid flying dream. |

I just woke up from hands down, the longest, most detailed and mind-blowing LD I've ever had! I even had a false awakening, which I never have, thought it was real until I saw 2 copies of my friend and realized I was still dreaming and it became another LD. Sweet! |

You're not alone. In fact, power/telephone lines are VERY common as a limiting factor. Check out this thread here: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ht=power+lines |

You just need practice, nobody can go flying like superman the first couple of times, first u gotta stumble around the air for a while. |

I had this problem for the longest time I could never really fly higher than the roof of a house or a "Power Lines" height. After I sort of just "let go" I found myself going into the clouds, reaching outer space, free falling, etc. It's all in your head man. |

That is a really helpful thread....I also found excerpts from LaBerge's book on lucidity.com that talk about how lots of LDers have problems flying above a certain level. To me it feels like the dream world is kind of like a video game stage that your mind has created with certain boundaries...it's like in Duke Nukem: You can put on a jetpack and fly around all u want but when you get to the top of the buildings, i.e. the boundary of the stage, you can't get any higher. that's just what it feels like for me when I can get higher than the treetops or powerlines of rooftops of buildings. i'll just have to work on expanding the boundaries |

You are only restricted to what your mind believes.. |
|
It could be that in order to fly you have to have a guidepost of some sort. So that when you reach it, youve no other place to aim for and so your imagination now has to create something. So like someone else said, maybe see whats above, like the moon, or clouds, and aim for that. |

when I am flying or about to fly in my dreams I hav full control of when whre and far up. th first coupl of times I could only go as far as the buildings and th trees around my surroundings. usually when i want to fly I do so to get away from the situation, or even to look down at what is going on around me from above, anyways so the first time I went higher then the buildings and trees it actually caused a sinking feling in my stomach and made me feel as if i was loing my breath, i think it was because i was just use to going high enough to b out of range and out of sight from the people below. However on the first time going up past everything i think i had those feelings because it was almost like a feeling that i was losing control, now i go however high i want and i love that i can control it. |

the problem with your flying ability is simply mental obviously. And though one might think the way to overcome that is to think, i CAN fly over the ceiling, or the buildings, which may work, i would suggest trying the opposite. Your acknowledgment of it creates a barrier, so if you think, i can go higher, your really thinking about the times you were not able too. You have to try to focus strictly the flying and your surroundings, and not thinking about just your limitations, focus on one thing is the enemy of lucid dreaming. |

Lucid Goals:
[ ] have four lucid dreams in one week
[X] be able to fly in a lucid dream
[ ] complete a lucid task of the month
[ ] have a conversation with my own sub-conscious
Lucid count: 11 Dild
ALways remember, you are a god in your dreams. You can anything. You can fly like superman at will (know it sounds crazy but it is YOUR dream in your head, I just have a hard time walking without the gravity holding me down) |

It's normal to face mental barriers when you try to use superpowers out of nowhere. In those cases, you can trick your mind into believing that you can fly for logical reasons. Some suggestions: |

Things are not as they seem
the easiest way to overcome this powerline thing, at least temporarily |

Quality LD's: 16
Where there's a will there's a way. You can make it happen. I've heard so many dreamers complain about this exact problem. Beleif is key. Do you expect to be able to fly higher? If you do, then it will happen, if not, then no. Try closing your dream eyes the next time you find yourself in and LD flying (hopefully soon). Imagine yourself rising slowly, and visualize where you want to wind up, if you are lucid, there is absolutely 0 reason why that has to happen...you'll get the hang of it, I was a pretty sh*tty flyer when I first began LD'ing as well, now I've got about 65-85% control of my flight these days...a good improvement. |
