Making demands before you go to sleep.

Every night before I go to sleep, I prey to have a nice night with no scary images or nightmares. Then I yell in my head and say to myself "I WILL NOT HAVE A BAD DREAM. THIS IS HOW IT WILL BE!! THERE IS NO IF ANDS OR BUTS. YOU LISTEN TO ME!" and I don't have a bad dream. Is this good to do or can my sub consiouse become offended and get back at me lol. Or it is my friend lol, and willing to do whatever I tell it to?

In response to your question, I've found that sometimes being too forward with my subconscious achieves the opposite result I want, so it's possible that this technique may not work for you. I mean, if it does work for you, go for it, but on that note... There's a lot of speculation as to what dreams are (or aren't) but there's a general consensus that dreams are re-hashed images, sounds and activities we've experienced or thought about recently. Dreams also have a lot to do with supressed (or overt) emotions. All I'm wondering is if you're trying to find a solution to the wrong problem. You're trying to find a way to stop the nightmares as nightmares. Perhaps you should be looking to find a way to stop the nightmares as what they actually are: fears, desires, emotions that you have during the waking world that you either don't acknowledge or supress that are finding their way into your dreaming consciousness. My advice would be to try and find out what's causing these nightmares and attack from that angle, not just simply try and supress them.

Can't I just become lucid if I have a night mare. And blast away the thing in the dream causing fear with an energy ball lol?

Yeah you can actually. When I was a little kid I used to have recurring nightmares. They happened so much that I eventually (without even having heard of the term lucidity or anything like it) became aware that I was dreaming almost immediately after it started. Of course I had very little control because I wasn't aware you could even do something like that, but what I would do is just kill myself in the dream. As soon as I realised it was a nightmare I'd jump off a cliff or something and it would end. This effectively stopped my nightmares completely and I haven't had any recurring nightmares since. Lucidity is a great way to stop nightmares altogether.

I've heard that brains (mostly subconcious I think) don't notify the word 'no'. So you shouldn't think like 'I won't have a nightmare tonight', but like 'I will have a nice and beautiful dream tonight'. There's an example of 2 golf players. While hitting the ball, another of those thought: 'Don't hit to the pond, don't hit to the pond', and he did. The other one thought: 'Hit to the green, hit to the green', and he did. Got my point? Think what you want it to be, not what you don't want it to be.

Thankyou for that marvelous information. I never knew that. @To the other guy that posted before you did after him before you after him: I have a theory about dreams. Dreams in general are not where you are when you enter a dream. There is a sub catagory. I would call it a dream-world. Witch is a paticular dream containing scenes. When you continue that dream, you goto the same place. So, when you kill yourself in your dream, you don't return to that paticular dream because your brain believes you no longer exist, but only in that paticular dream. So you can dream other things but not that because you are dead in that dream. What you tink?
