      Twirling to Change Dream Content

I've seen it mentioned herre and elsewhere that if you don't "like the scenery", you can twirl around (like a dervish) several times, and when you've come to a stop, the scenery will have changed.

I tested that out last night (I had a whole string of lucid dreams last night).

Anyway, when I came to a stop, it was pitch black. I mean nothing. Then all of a sudden, the bottom dropped out from under me, and I began free falling.

It was frightening at first, but reminding myself that I was only dreaming helped a lot and I just sort of went along for the ride. Once I got used to it, it was really quite fun!

Has anyone else tried this "twirling" thing lately with similar results? If not, what did happen?

      mind twirling

I do not think that the action of 'twirling' is itself important, but the idea behind it is.

With a great enough will one may easily change the setting of a dream,
but not with force, rather with an unthinking pacificism, a sort of 'respect' if you will for the dream.

I remember some times when I was just starting I would try to force change and often times get the opposite of what I wanted. The key is in 'not' wanting change, not desiring change, but simply loving what you are experiencing no matter what.

With unbending will or love for the dreamworld, I think one is alloud to come close enough to learn how to manipulate the world.

So when you twirl, think of nothing, let the compassion of your soul decide the new setting and 'poof' it may just appear.

I agree, the spinning itself isn't important, people often focus on something in their dream world, ie your hands to begin with, it's all about making your dreaming world more concrete. If you focus for a moment on something, and direct your awareness towards something besides the fact that you are aware is the key. Sometimes this can cause a loss of lucidity, but at least you won't wake up.

He has an avatar? I can't see it. And I still can't see your sig, either, Paperdoll.

Thank you! Just put the whole picture up over at deviantart.com. Oh, and your sig decided to show itself now. How nice of it.

Ugh, why am I still up? I think it's time for me to make a visit to dreamland. I work zombie hours and it sucks. =/

ok get this mental picture in your head

i was flying the other night above a city, and the dream moved to 3rd person and started retreating from my vision, and thought, hell ill spin

so while flying i started spinning, and it was funny to see, cause it was still in 3rd person...as so my dreams shift all the time between 1st and 3rd person, i wish i could just control that

...consequence you'll see will be stranger than a gang of drunken mimes

The spinning technique works for me 100% of the time. So glad I read LaBerge's book! I can prolong my lucidity soooo much by doing that.
