      No control :(

I've had a lucid almost daily this week, and one or two times each week in the past month. I achieve them either through DILD or FILD.

I'm really happy to have them, but in them I have NO control and they're really slow.

      Here's some common factors:
I spin but I go anywhere, or go to a random place.
      I can barely move
My seeing suddenly blurs or starts to flash fluro

Why does this happen? I started to try LDing in late October, and I was all arrogant and thought I'd be having full control lucids by now. I remember at least four dreams a night (without needing a journal, thought I do keep one now), which are usually detailed and vivid, and I've had accidental lucids before. I have (had) full confidence in my abilities to control a dream, but it's been really awful lately. I had four lucids in the last nap I took, and in all of them I could barely move or do anything, and when I realized I was lucid I couldn't do anything.

Here's an extert from the journal (DILD):

I started to spin and as I did I thought ‘Crap, I don’t know where to go”. I thought about it and imagined a field to go to so I could speak to my sub-conscious, but I ended up in a room at my Grandmothers house. I started to spin again, and I ended up back in the bed. I blocked my nose when I got there and noticed I could breathe, and then looked at my hands. My hands looked absolutely normal, and I thought about how in dreams hands were always screwed up. All of a sudden they started to ripple and bulge out, and my vision suddenly went dark around the edges again. That made me furious, and I lay there wondering what I could do. The lucidity eventually dissolved.

      __

I know I can control the dream, because when I thought of my hands they rippled just like I excepted. I just don't know how to control the rest, and it's REALLY REALLY irritating. I've thought of pulling a remote out of my pockets to control the settings, but I'd forgotten about the idea. Do you think that'd work well, or that I'll be able to find one? I say phrases and imagine surroundings to stabilize them, but it doesn't work.

I don't reality check at all and I just have LDs because I think of them. Would reality checking help me control them? I'm considering trying to WILD, but I'm terrified of sleep paralysis.

      Thanks for the help

      Interesting thoughts on the matter

I know they're a bit of a read, but all of those will help you greatly. Also remember that it's also very common to have no control, especially if you're just starting out. Plenty of people have this problem, and they all overcome it as long as they stick with it. It will pass with time and experience. You may also want to try stabilizing the dream first. I would also recommend "practicing" during the day. Randomly imagine that you just realized that you're dreaming. What do you do? Do you flip out and do the first thing on your mind, or do you stop and collect yourself first? Do you plow blindly ahead, or do you remind yourself that it is all a dream, and you are in control?

A common mental barrier is that bigger things are harder to do. Moving a pebble is easy, but a boulder is not. This sort of misconception is detrimental and can be difficult to overcome, but at the end of the day, it's all part of the same dream. It is also important to remember that all dreams are not created equal. Some are longer and more vivid, as well as easier to control. You may have just been having bad luck, too.

      Hope that helped.

I just had a dream where I couldn't do something that I had never had a problem with before. Sometimes people just go through a phase where they don't have any control. If you start to obsess with this lack of control, though, you will never be able to overcome it. Next lucid, don't think about controling anything, just relax and if you're still having problems with spinning, don't spin, rub your hands together. And if you want to do something, just do it.

PS: You should start small when you try to control dreams. Start with stabalizing and move on to taking control of the things you can touch (lifting heavy objects, phasing through walls). Then move on to bigger things where you don't have to touch them (telekinesis and mind control). That's how I did it anyways.

Definitely a good idea if you're having trouble with dream control, but you also want to be really careful of getting into the mindset that some things are harder to do than others. It's all a dream, and moving a pebble with your mind is no different from moving a boulder. The thing that restrains us in this area is that we expect the boulder to be harder to move, when really, it isn't, or shouldn't be.

Oops, sorry, i definately wasn't trying to say that some things were harder. I was just trying to say that she should try to ease her mind into lucid dreaming.

TY for the help - I had four or so lucid dreams last night and I could move around. I used a remote control, but nothing really was vivid. I was flying in the sky and getting all irritated and thinking about how I couldn't feel a single thing, no wind or warmth/cold or anything whatsoever. I tried turning to vivid and lucid factors up on the remote, but they only temporarily lasted. I got this random brown furry thing in the corner of my room (there's always weird creatures right where my exercycle is and they're kind of creepy, anyway to fix this?) to hand me a drink, and I acted like it was dream tonic that turned everything up. That managed to stop the flashing vision but it didn't last either.

It sucks, but I really thought lucid dreaming would be super feely/seeing like the best of my ordinary dreams. IDK if that's me just been a beginner though.

I also kept on thinking in lucid dreams that I'm sleeping somewhere other than where I am. In one of them I woke up in my usual bed, and became lucid because I thought I was meant to be sharing with someone else. This started when I slept in a strange bed at Dads for a while, IDK if it'll last or anything but false memories may be decreasing lucidity.

Anyway, sorry for the wall of text Am I just having beginners dreams or is there anything I can do to amp up the vividness? I shout phrases like Lucidity and Vividness now, but none of them really do much.

The remote will work. But only if you know so. Remember, Believing is seeing. ALWAYS.

Here's my suggestion. Don't get frustrated. It made things worse for me.

Until last night I was never able to do ANYTHING in my LD's When I spun to change places I woke up.

Plz don't read this if your easily scared, i'm scared just rethinking about it. but it wasnt a nightmare.
I believe I was having my first lucid dream a couple of nights ago. I didn't have great control of the dream but i could control where i walked. Thing is...it was a very creepy dream. I was inside of a very dark/creepy/dusty/empty house. outside it wasnt night but the sky was a dark greyish/orange with a bunch of dead trees all around. Everything was going great as far as control but then....I went to walk down the stairs, and I could imagine something or someone holding me in place but i couldn't see anything. I was also floating above the ground a lil bit. I was stuck there a good 15 seconds scared out of my mind until i finally like forced myself to wake up. This dream is what drove me to find this website and forum. I havent had any dreams like it but ive been remembering my dreams alot better i think since then.
anyways. In the back of my mind while i was floating there stuck in place i could imagine like a dark figure in all black robes casting a spell on me or physically holding me in the air, while he was in the air. I wasnt completly terrified like i would be if this really had happend, but the sensation was so INTENSE! i was trying to move so hard and just couldn't.
also ever since i had this dream, ive been dreaming ALOT and before that i can't recall any dreams for a ways back. I don't know if im posting in the wrong spot and sorry for the story book. but you guys were talking about no control and I thought id share, and possibly get some feedback from some of you experienced dreamers.

Why do you expect to show up somewhere when you spin? The whole point with spinning is to make your LD more clear. And, if spinning confuse you, I would try rubbing your hands together. Start with that instead of spinning.

Also, if you can't move, you are "moving" the wrong way. What I experienced alot was that you don't THINK about moving. You have to DO it.

And example. I was standing somewhere in an LD once. And I had trouble moving. I thought about moving, but I couldn't. I though that it was a dream, so I should controll everything with my mind. So, instead of thinking about walking, you have to walk as you do it in real life. Step forward as you would do in real life.

      I'm fairly new to LD,

I've gotten to the point of realizing I'm dreaming and have started working on control, but I've hit an obstacle, and you may have answered it. The main problem is one of my dream signs is an effect. I find it hard to walk in dreams as if gravity is slowly getting heavier. Last night This started happening and I said ok I'm dreaming but it continued to get worse I stopped and tried to think about walking and couldn't move at all. Best technic for getting out of this?? anyone..

I noted you said to not think, but I wasn't thinking about it in the first place so I'm not sure why it all of a sudden starts and I can't let it go.
