I'm used to having weird dreams. I have them all the time, but they always seem to be more nonsense than anything else and I very rarely remember them after a day or so. But last night's dream was very vivid and I'm not sure what to make of it. I remember it as clearly now as when I woke up early this morning.
To begin with, I am female, in my late 40's, and single.
The location of the dream was my grandparent's house, which was sold in the summer of 1978. Both of my grandparents died before the end of the year. I haven't been inside the house since they moved out.
Everyone in the dream was seated at the dining room table, which was oval in shape. The left side of the table, where I was sitting was very clear. I can picture it even now - sort of a dark cherry color with ornately scrolled legs. The right side of the table was in shadows, and I was never able to "see" who was sitting there.
Sitting to my right in the very center was my deceased grandfather. His image was very clear to me. VERY clear. He was in his usual attire of brown trousers, brown sleeveless button-down cardigan, and long-sleeved plaid flannel shirt. His clothing was the only one in the dream that was detailed.
The others at the table - their images were not so clear, but I knew exactly who they were.
To my left, sitting at the end of the table, was my father, who died 8 years ago. To his left and opposite me sat my mother (who is still alive). To her left, in the center of the table (sitting opposite to my grandfather), sat a deceased cousin. She was also one of my best friends, and died 13 years ago from an untreated medical condition. To her left sat her mother (my aunt, also still alive).
We were playing cards - poker, which was something we had never played at my grandparent's house. I remember thinking that was rather odd.
What is also strange is that I could see vividly that these cards were not ordinary playing cards. It was more like someone had used an inkjet printer and printed up several decks using perforated business cards, as the playing cards themselves were about that size. I could see and feel the rough texture of the paper and the perforations on the edges, and remember asking in the dream why we were playing with these and not regular cards. (There was no answer.)
I remember winning that particular hand, and as we were getting ready to deal the next hand, my grandfather turned to me and clearly said, "I have something very important to tell you."
That, of course, is when I woke up!
Any help in interpreting this would be greatly appreciated. I was never disturbed by a dream like this before, and even now, hours after waking up, the details are so vivid that I am feeling... well... a little freaked out!
