Floating Eye - Between waking and dreaming

      Hi,

A quick background, for several years I've had this strange occurrence where I'd begin to fall asleep and before I fully slipped away, a series of strange symbols+scenarios would appear to me. The imagery I'd see is really vivid and the colors are out of this world. And these would tend to happen before a change in my life was to occur. One time, before the start of a new relationship and job, I had an image of a skyscraper with the sun rising and setting behind it. According to several sources, this meant I was starting something new and it would lead to the progression towards my goals. So far it has.

So basically Its a spin on lucid dreaming. I'll have these images about 10 seconds before I fall asleep, so I can actually tell when i'm about to pass out. And my eyes are closed and everything. Kind of like still being conscious and alert while you're dreaming.

Anyways, recently, I had one these symbolic dreams about a single floating eye. The iris is black, its disembodied, and at first its staring up. But then it turns around and stares at me. Slightly creepy right?

So do any of you have any idea what this symbolism might be referring to?

I was recently looking up a dream and i came upon this posting . while i understand that it was a few years ago, i am still unable to find any anwers and your description was exactly what i dreamt. I am curious to know if you have received any feedback from this dream from an outside source. i cannot seem to find anything that does not require me to break down the individual symbolisms......

      hope to hear from you

franflakes, look up "hypnagogic" dreaming. The eye image described by the poster in 2008 suggests the physiologically-derived images called "entoptic." These occur in the first phases of trance/sleep/dream and are often imbued with meaning. You might find some books on paleolithic cave art or current theories of shamanistic trance helpful.

If your symbols are occurring in REM, I may be able to help you read the dream. Hypnagogic imagery, however, is of a different source and nature.

You can send me a message with a description of your dream or look for me at Fifth Sun Dreams FB or Fifth Sun Dreams wordpress.com blog.

Before a change in your life, you would be more stimulated to see, fittingly, really vivid things where the colors are out of this world. Literally out of your normal world. Those symbols are what you remember, probably because nothing specific yet has happened.

A skyscraper looks like your aspiration to touch the sky, or a high goal or ideal, perhaps at the forefront of you whole day.

A black iris might symbolize not seeing, and is your sight, and goal - because it looks up - disembodied from you.
And then this failed side of you looks at you. As it sees you.
