      Strange Elevator dream

I was in this super fancy hotel, checked in with my husband and we got in the elevator to go up to our room. We were supposed to go to the 16th floor but it started going really fast up 200 floors... The metal hand rails inside the elevator started curving towards us like the elevation was making the elevator shrink... We tried again to go to our floor but it went all the way back down to the lobby. Next we went to the 18th floor, back to lobby, back way way up, for ages up and down and never getting to our floor. I was getting really frustrated and annoyed and I was scarred of elevators (I'm not in real life). There were no stairs. But there was this harness system like bungee cords that just went under both arms and relied on your arm strength for safety... Totally strange but still couldn't get to our floor after a few scary attempts.*What could this mean?*

Do hotels symbolize anything? I have so many dreams in hotel settings...

      Thanks

Hotels may suggest luxury or taking it easy. We stay in them like a home for short periods of time, so they can indicate attitudes that are impermanent, temporary, just passing, stages of life perhaps. You wrote "super fancy hotel," which points to the first association of "luxury." I will think on this dream a little more....

Was the 200 floors an exact number or are you estimating?

It was in the 200 range, Im pretty sure it was 216... Does 16 or 18 mean anything? I know we were trying to get to 16 and ended up on 18 more than once. Those three numbers are what stuck even tho we went to many different floors...

This is what I typed up for you yesterday:

While you hold on for the ride (the bungee), your pathway is being decided in rapid and frustrating fashion as you pass through various states of mind, brief and temporary, although lofty (if I can judge by the height of the floors and their numbers). The 16th floor is your intent (or calling) for a dharmic path. It is the floor you never reach in the dream. The rapid, dramatic ascent shows a tendency toward a manic method of progress and may be the cause of never stopping at the 16th, Dharma. This may be the problem presented in the dream, which suggests that the solution is to take a more moderate, balanced approach. In fact, the 18th floor indicates balance, so it is possibly the answer toward reaching the dharmic path or universal consciousness. You reach the 16th by first visiting the 18th, "expansion through balance of the heart." It is possible that karmic influences, the "super fancy hotel," representing luxury, and the lobby, representing a lower, earthy phase, both which may be materialism in your associations, are the opposing force that keep the lift in motion against your intentions toward dharma.

The information you added was that the number of floors was 216. This echoes my earlier interpretation. Two, like eight, is a number of balance. Two is more about sharing, give and take, so that describes a more specific path of finding "expansion through balance of the heart." 16 is either a promise of what is to come or a push in that direction.

      Good luck and many blessings.

Lightbulb The Mysterious Case of The Strange Elevator dream

I think you wanted a super fancy holiday from your normal life.
You and your husband, or else he in your mind, checked into this idea, wanting to make it your 'home' or yourself.

And maybe you aimed way too high, too fast, and this made your world shrink.

You tried again to go to where you wanted, but you went all the way back down.
Next you went a bit higher than your goal, but couldn't maintain it and went back down to the bottom or beginning.

For ages you went up and down like a yoyo, out of control, never getting to your destination.
You got really frustrated and annoyed and scared of aspiration.

Despite that you held tightly onto yourself, and your safety depended on your strength, your hold would be bound to stretch you out of control like the elevator.

You still couldn't ascend to the level you wanted to be after a few scary attempts.

I doubt the numbers mean anything but relativity ~ your destination, the extreme from it, and the closeness to it.

Dreamergurl37, I will offer my interpretation of the dream. However, I wish to add a disclaimer since the interpretation involves your marital relationship. I prefer to be cautious in giving commentary on others' marriages, so I leave you to be the judge of the veracity or lack thereof in everything I share! Any questions I ask you are for your own consideration…you don't need to answer them.

I believe the hotel that you and your husband enter together represents your relationship, since a hotel is a symbol of a place you stay together on a journey. In the dream, you and your husband enter together in to the luxurious main floor lobby, which is a possible depiction of the richness and sublimity of what you both experience together.

However, this is what you find in the lobby. The lobby is the place of safety and ease in the relationship, not of higher levels of personal intimacy.

When you step in the elevator together, the elevator likely symbolizes the progression and trajectory in your relationship together. You aim for the 16th floor…to take things slowly to protect your inner self from vulnerability. But alas, as you progress upwards, you shoot past that floor, and as you do, the walls close in on you. A fear of intimacy?

So you shoot back down to the lobby, the place of safety in the relationship, but you wish to keep aiming for floor 16. What is there? Do you know? What did the feeling of floor 16 suggest was there for you?

But you kept going past it, to your dismay and alarm. Are there times in your relationship where you feel yourself afraid toy be too close in certain ways (you don't need to answer that..it's for you to consider)?

Now, for the bungee harnesses. When you feel vulnerable, your ego comes in to help you feel in control. That is the harness, which, as you said, you use your own strength with to stay in control. Are there ways or behaviors you may repeatedly engage in to help you feel in control in your relationship? The elevator is the ONENESS of your relationship that is shared, but neither one of you can individually control it; you can only make goals (floor 16!) and aim for them. But the individual harnesses are ego defenses and compensations that come in when you feel like the relationship may not be in your control.

Those are my interpretations, for what they are worth.

Usually elevators tend to be odd in dreams like a horror movie. I get that too, but it's been a while since i had elevator dreams.
