are nightmares trying to warn me of something?

it's the second time this week that I wake up in the middle of the night, terrified. The first time was from a dream where there were two men who seemed like friends who then followed me and assaulted me in a clearing when I was going to get my bike at night. The next day they were there in my life again like nothing had happened. I woke up feeling very vulnerable.

But last night was much worse and I don't understand the images. Any help would be great. I'm worried my subconscious is trying to say something.

In the dream, I go into a dark building to put some of my things in a locker. I am going to a party in another building but I have to leave stuff here. I get this horrible feeling. It's dark and empty. I see a smoke-like whisp. There's are evil ghosts in here. I freak out and leave.

I go to the party and a guy I like (and have been seeing a bit, but it's very confusing) is there. I tell him about the building I put my stuff in - he says he felt something bad and avoided it. Some rooms in the party look like my grandparent's house. Me, the guy, and a few other people are looking out and we see several men attack some passers-by. One woman, a drag queen, gets slapped really hard in the face and her purse it taken. The others are just being mugged. People at the party watch but no one does anything. Security is there pretty quickly and scares the attackers off. The woman comes in and she seems to not be overtly frazzled. In the dream-reality, she's been a kind of inspiration for me for a while. I tell her so.

Then I want to leave but need to go back to that terrifying, evil building. No one will come with me. I go in and for some reason it's daytime inside and the building is full of light and people. The evil recedes with all this activity. I have a hard time finding the locker and the whole place is now a gym. I stop in at a campus health clinic. I go to the counter and see a file with my name on it. The nurse assumes I had an appointment and looks at my file - she tells me I'm fine and adds that I've been at this school the longest - except for 'john' (a guy I work with who's shown romantic interest in me lately).

That was the dream. Even though the end was okay I still woke up with that horrible, frightened, vulnerable feeling. The evil of that building was the focal point. I felt like I shouldn't be walking home alone in the middle of the night, or someone's following me. I felt scared. I don't know what it's about.

I believe there is something or are some things you should be considering. However, Don't be worried; "Which of you, By worrying, Can add a moment to your life?"

The two men who seemed like friends but hurt you represents, perhaps, that you feel you are out-numbered by people who act nice to your face, but who are negative behind your back. Symbolized by following may represent you feel you are being targeted by those real-life people. Getting your bike at night means this is a situation you feel you cannot escape, and the clear opening means these things you feel happen to you happen in public. Nighttime represents mystery, fear, and a changed reality around you. - Perhaps in your real life work environment (work, school) that you feel you are a target, and because of your situation you can't 'just quit,' and you don't know why you feel this way.

The second part of your dream... The dark building represents a structure or organization you attend daily, but because it's dark you don't like going there. The party can represent a few things... If you like parties then this is the place you'd rather be, but if you hate parties it means that you may feel alone in life. It can also be a moment in life that you remember fondly, like when you where the center of attention. Leaving stuff behind can represent sacrifice: you have to give up something important to go to the party. Darkness represents more fear and foreboding, and the wisp represents an unknown anxiety in your life forcing you to go to the party - forfeiting responsibility.
The guy you like may represent an aspect of him you admire. For example, if he's a nice guy that means you want to be a nice person or something to that effect. Because he avoided the dark building this may mean that this person in your life may not have the same struggles as you may have in your work area. The grandparents room represent a part of your life you may wish to return to: a more innocent time, a safer time when someone took care of you, or something to that effect. You and the party people watching the attack of the cross-dresser and the mugging is a sense of helpless you feel, and you feel like nobody around you means that nobody will protect you or anyone else from the men (the men may represent the back-stabbers in your life again). You telling the drag-queen you admire her may be a backwards way your brain is telling you to be "more manly" as to which a man may represent to you. Perhaps you see men as protectors, self-confidence, or something to that effect. (I'm not trying to be sexist ) When returning the the building it becomes light. This means that by acquiring the traits of the DQ, you'll attain what you desire at work. Not finding you locking means that you lost what you gave up, basically whatever you have to sacrifice to attain your desires is gone forever. What you gave up could be a negative part of yourself you cling to, but are better off without. For example, if you hold on to feelings of a past relationship because it feels good to think about, you may be better off moving on. The gym is basically a place of self improvement. You need to work at whatever your doing to get there. The nurse telling you you've been here the longest except for John is interesting. Being in the clinic means your weaknesses are being nursed back to health, and you being here the 2nd longest means you where here because you shared traits with John. Whatever traits John has is holding you back (maybe you think he's insincere or something like that) and by dumping these traits, you can grow.

Overall, it seems that you are having anxiety issues in life that root from your work environment. The dream is very "people focused" which may be your main concerns in life. The buildings and offices you described are conscious and subconscious locations you spend most of your time. (Places you don't want to be and places you wish you could be).

I hope this interp was helpful. This is but one possible explanation. Good luck!
