Dream of taking a little girl's side over my boyfriend?

First off, I am female, 16, have a very stable family, my boyfriend lives relatively far away (30 minutes away). Lately, I've been having doubts about whether he really wants to be with me anymore, if he cares anymore. He never tried talking to me anymore; it's just me trying to talk to him, instead. I've always been afraid of love because I have a fear of people leaving me, yet I have recently admitted to him that I do love him.

In my dream, it mainly consisted of me, my boyfriend (who for some reason was not in his own form; it was like an avatar for him but I still knew it was meant to be my boyfriend. Instead, he appeared to be African and homeless.) and a little boy/girl (I know it sounds confusing, but at the start of my dream he was a little boy, but then towards the end of the dream he randomly turned into a little girl.) The little boy/girl had no name and only spoke occasionally. As a boy, he was African, as well, and also homeless. But, the little girl which he turned into seemed to be young, English and actually reminded me a bit of myself.

Anyway, at the beginning I saw (as if I was watching a film) my boyfriend wandering around in a deserted place. It was boiling hot and there was barely any grass surrounding the area. He looked slightly confused about where he was going; wearing just a sort of caveman material around his waist. I felt amused watching him get lost around the area. The next thing I knew, my dream suddenly switched so that my boyfriend was under a bridge, staring out into the landscape. The little boy (wearing the exact same outfit as my boyfriend) seemed dehydrated and lying near-death under the bridge. They did not speak to one another.
Soon after this scene, I appeared in the dream. I felt slightly scared as I walked through the deserted area. I didn't quite know where I was going, but I knew that I was going to see my boyfriend. Finally, I reached the top of the hill which was next to the bridge. I peered over and saw my boyfriend and the little boy. I don't know why, but I snuck down to help the little boy escape from him. My boyfriend had gone in search of food. Swiftly, I woke up the little boy. Not a word was said as we raced up the hill and back to my house. I felt fear the whole time. Then, (I have no idea how this was relevant to my dream at all), I stopped suddenly, picked up a mug which used to be mine but went missing out of the dirt, and just exclaimed "I wondered where this got to!" Then threw it back down and continued running with the little boy.
Once again, my dream suddenly flipped to the inside of my house. I cannot remember exactly, but I think that we had something of my boyfriends which is why he tried chasing us. He finally knocked on the front door. I walked to the door, feeling panicked constantly, holding the little boy's hand. As I opened the door, I looked down at him but he had now turned into the little girl. She was holding my favourite teddy from my childhood. I smiled at her as she hid behind the door.
As soon as I opened the door, my boyfriend smirked and said to me "So baby, who do you love? Me or her?". I thought about that for a brief second. "Zayne...I love you" I almost whispered. A huge smile spread across his face as he said "Well, then it's settled isn't it?". There was an evil atmosphere about this avatar of my boyfriend which I didn't like; it scared me. Almost as soon as he said that, I told him "But I also love her" (gesturing to the little girl). A grimace crossed his face and he left without a word. I burst into tears for being left by him so easily. As soon as this occurred, I woke up and found that I had also been crying in real life.

Could anybody interpret this for me please? I'm very confused by this dream. Thanks
[Note that I have not used my boyfriends actual name. In my dream I said his real name, but obviously for him to remain anonymous I have not mentioned his name.]

I think you have very deep feelings around your boyfriend which are a combination of love, fear of losing him, doubt as to whether he still wants to be with you, etc. And all that complex emotion then transforms into a very emotional complex dream. You can see that just as in real life you declared your love for him, in the dream you say you love him, but it is not simple, is it? It does not really solve the problem, and there is a problem, now only you and your boyfriend really know what the problem is: is it because you fear so much that he will leave you that you can no longer relax around him and trust him? or is it because you said you love him and that scared him off? or because your confusing emotions are making the relationship more confusing? I think that the two of you probably need to talk it out and communicate your hopes and fears, and figure out whether the two of you feel the same/simillar way about oneanother, or whether you do not understand eachother enough. The child in your dream I think may be your inner child, the scared part of you that you are protecting? Perhaps this dream is trying to say that if you protect her/yourself too much, you will loose him. However, on the other hand, you do need to protect yourself, and you are vulnerable, and because you love him, he has the ability to hurt you emotionally more than most people can. Does that make sense?

Oh yeah, [sorry I think you answered my previous dream but I couldn't figure out how to reply]. That actually makes a lot of sense to me now, I never thought of it like that, thank you. I'll try speaking to him about it and maybe explain my dreams to him, thank you.

By the way, is it unusual that I have complex dreams like this? Because I seem to have them every night, yet usually I can just interpret them myself :/

Some people have simple dreams, some people have complex dreams, and sometimes a person who usually has simple dreams has a complex dream, oh and sometimes a person may think a dream is simple but then later on realizes it was more complex than he or she initially thought.
