Last night I had a dream that my mom died (feels yucky to even type that sentence). Anyway, she was laying on the couch, dead, and I was crying and holding her and then I realized that if I was sleeping she would be able to come to life in my dream (I'm pretty sure it was related to a thread I read here yesterday about a place where dreamers and dead people meet or something).

Anyway, while I was holding her I closed my eyes and made myself fall asleep right away. When I opened my eyes in the dream, she was alive and awake and we hugged and I was so happy. And the whole time I was telling myself, "you know you're dreaming, you're lucid dreaming, this isn't real, don't be dissapointed when you wake up." But I had control in that dream and I was making her alive and making her talk to me but I knew I was just dreaming.

Anyway, then I woke up in the dream and she was still dead in my arms. I don't really know what happened after that.

Is that sort of a lucid dream? It was a dream within a dream and I did exert some control in the second dream, I just didn't realize it was a dream within a dream.

I can't make up my mind. What do you think?

OF COURSE IT WAS A LUCID DREAM!

You were in a Dream and realized that the only way to solve your rather important problem would be to go Lucid in a Dream. AND YOU DID.

But you have put some thought into the Actual Dream, haven't you?

You dreamt of your mother's death. How sad. But look what you were able to do. You were able to use your Lucid Dreaming in order to cross over to the other side where your Mother's Soul was still alive. Well, you tried your best to ruin the consolsation by imposing your materialistic assumptions on every comforting aspect.

"Mother you are not really alive. You are just a controlled figment of my imagination".

But is that what your Dream really wanted to tell you?

Or was your Dream telling you that you would now have access to the Other Side?

Remember, the Dream Scenario was not of your own choosing. You need to think in terms of what these Dream Scenarios are. Are they arbitrary? Or are they meaningful?

I'm glad I'm not a materialist. Life would be so miserable.

Pretty powerful experience, and yes it was an LD.

I often have dreams that I'm talking to my dad, who died back in October, and my just being in his presence is usually enough to grant me lucidity as well.
