      Red wasp dream

I generally don't remember or search for meanings of any dream I have had so far, but I had one recently which intrigued me and decided to find out more.

It began at a family function. I was surrounded by family I had only known since childhood, in a room which what seemed like a living space/room that had been adjusted to set the mood. The theme was celebratory although there was no sign of what was being celebrated. The number of people were around 30-40. I passed through some people, mostly people I didn't recognise or usually associate myself with. I am a British Indian and my family are Sikh. Every man was dressed in suits and wore turbans, but all the women were in mundane colours and dressed in western clothes rather than saris which would be more common at family functions. I remember a distant cousin (male) making a comment or remark which he considered amusing. Not understanding and feeling nervous I politely nodded and smiled. Sat next to my cousin was my father, and I passed through sideways because of a lack of space from them and a table.

My sister then appeared serving food to everyone at the event when I heard a persistent buzz. She mentioned there was a wasp near me. I am afraid of wasps, and tried to avoid the buzzing sound. It would persist no matter where I went sometimes being more distant but always coming back to me. I then saw the wasp of typical size for a wasp but noticed it was red and black rather than yellow and black. I tried to avoid it by moving and trying to remain calm but when it persisted to fly around my head and neck I began trying to swat/discourage it. Nobody else seemed to notice the wasp except me and my sister, but I ended up moving deliberately away from it with an increasing sense of fear and panic. I then went through a door which opened up to my grandparents kitchen as I remembered from childhood (it has since been redecorated and modernised). At this point I began flailing my hands around my head and neck to try and stop the wasp and crouched. I stopped for a few seconds and then it landed on the back of my neck. I instantly woke up feeling panic and failingly trying to swat the wasp by smacking my neck and head. This is the first time I have ever had a physical reaction to a dream, and am curious to learn more about potential meanings.

Other relevant information is that during the day I noticed a wasp on my jeans while on a bus. It didn't move so I crushed in against the back of a seat. I also noticed when I woke up my I had left my laptop on and the fan was humming (perhaps the sound is relevant?).

      Any insights would be appreciated.

Did you feel guilty about killing the wasp?
It sounds like a standard stress dream to me; scary social events, scary wasps. I think dream interpretations can only accurately be done by the person that had the dream, but I'll tell you what it would mean to me if it was my dream.

I would see the women wearing western clothes as them abandoning their culture and being entirely westernized. The wasp would signify some impending fear in my life that I had been stressed about that I couldn't escape. Or maybe it could be symbolic of some underlying thing in my life that I am very bothered by that nobody seems to understand except for my sister. Are you very stressed lately?

I hope you find some meaning from it.
      And welcome to dreamviews!

Edit: *I also moved the thread to dream interpretation* for you, so hopefully you'll get some nice responses.

I have had similar fear generated during a dream from which a dark entity would hold me down and paralyze me while I was sleeping in my bed, and then I would wake up in sheer fright, thinking I was just attacked or something. I am scared of wasps too, and I almost wonder which dream experience would be more frightening to me? hmmmm,
I am more afraid of hornets, and yellowjackets, than wasps, but I still do not like them.

Thanks for the interpretation! I didn't feel guilty about killing the wasp, more afraid and panicked. I think there is a lot of confusion about my given culture as an Indian from a religious upbringing and being born in the UK and living here all my life. As I live in London I am aware although not knowledgeable of different cultures and I suppose I have difficulty finding my place. I guess that can be stressful...

I also have suffered with depression for 10 years and felt my existence was meaningless. I have two sisters, one of which used to have cancer and is the one I spoke to in my dream. Now I think of it, I appeared how I looked when she had cancer. I suppose I think of her as having an understanding of an existential crises.

If you have any further insight in light of the above, I'd love to hear it! Thanks again.

Aw man, that's great that she doesn't have cancer anymore. That must have been really scary.

I don't know what it could mean, maybe you have been running from facing your feelings because of what they could mean, because they might hurt a lot if you let yourself really experience them rather than constantly pushing them away and trying to run from them. If it were a recurring dream of mine, I would stop running from the wasp and let it sting me. If I were running away from looking within myself to see if there really is any meaning to my existence or not, then I would face it, even though it could potentially mean confirming my greatest fears.

I love interpreting my own dreams but I'm really not that great at interpreting other peoples' dreams. If you want you could send a pm to dolphin or PercyLucid asking for help, I think that they're both probably quite experienced with interpreting other peoples' dreams.

I really hope that you find what you're looking for.

I read that the wasp stands for family relationships. Red is the color of the root chakra. I think it has a lot to do with grounding in this world. So does family, ofcourse. It is also a symbol of taking action afaik.

Being stung by a wasp means that it's trying to get ur attention. like a warning omen.

I really like what I read here : Wasp: Awaken your magick powers - Auntyflo.com

      Also:

I do not remember it's name But that's a cool buzzy little fella! Wasps are powerful creatures.

To AnotherDreamer, your description, particularly 'maybe you have been running from facing your feelings because of what they could mean, because they might hurt a lot if you let yourself really experience them rather than constantly pushing them away and trying to run from them' is very accurate to how I feel and why I think I feel them in general for a very long time. The only thing I disagree with you on is that you on is that you think you on is that you think you are not great at interpreting other peoples dreams. I think you just did a great job! Thanks again.

To Dthoguhts, I read the link you provided and its symbolism of social change, virtues of productivity and family connections. These things have been prominent for a while, but particularly in the last couple of weeks. It fits in to what I feel as well as what I think. The idea that its considered a good omen is very encouraging and uplifting, especially since I'm making significant progress in finding myself and planning what I want and can do with my life. Between you and AnotherDreamer, you have made my day! Thanks!
