Dream about magic doors and demons

I just made an account here to see if anyone could make sense of this dream. I'm awake at 3am and still feel really uneasy. First off, hello everyone, I'm Rem. A little about my real life. I'll say I'm in my late 20s, early 30s, male. I recently began the first steps into a new career in nursing. Taking on alot of schooling and working clinicals 5 days a week at a nursing home. The idea was to get a CNA to help get into the competitive RN course.

Anyway, my dream. The earliest thing I can remember is being in a really dank/dark underground castle type setting. For some reason, I'm some sort of demon. Its understood that this place is my home, and im very comfortable here. There were other demons as well in different parts of this castle. They were related to me somehow, and didn't seem too different from regular people aside from some demonic features such as eyes and skin tone. I know this sounds rediculous already, and I don't usually have dreams like this, but please bare with me.

Some other type of creatures had intruded into my home and had captured these family members of mine (they were nothing like my actual family btw). I made my way through these tomb-like rooms, scaling walls and jumping pits, to kill these intruders and save the other demons.

After I saved all but one (who was supposedly lost to these intruders) another being, that was not there before nor part of our family unit, advised us to leave the tombs that had been over run by these other creatures.

As we left, I realised that every entrance to our castle connected to another part of the world. Meaning I could enter the castle from from Europe, take a short stroll through a hallway and exit in China or america. But the entrances were secret in a way. To anyone that wondered in they would be exploring a small vacant tomb or grave. But, by some method, we could change the entrance to a castle.

So back to the events of the dream, and this is where it got even stranger. The other demons that had escaped (I think there were three) were concerned about the one we lost. I explained to them that we were all connected by the same life force and none of us could really die if at least one is still alive, which seemed to reassure them.

The other being, which as far as I could tell was a human woman, told me to leave the others and begin exploring the surroundings with her. I recognized the area because I had a similar hidden home here that was made and forgotten, I guess, centuries before. To get into it, you needed a special key that would change where the entrance led. To my surprise this woman had it. It was a gold skeleton key.

But she doesn't want to find this old home, she instead leads me to this old rundown building. It was a wooden 1900s style building that looked like it was a bar or barbershop from the old west. At this point I begin to become somewhat lucid, I don't necessarily know I'm dreaming, but I feel I have some control and that this woman is a guide.

I haven't had a lucid dream in years, so I'm kind of uncomfortable with being aware of another, seemingly, intelligent entity in my presence. She hands me the key and I unlock the door. When I open it, the vacant building was now inhabited by beautiful women in old timey dresses. I had entered into an old brothel. I had short conversations with the people there (can't remember what about) and left.

When I left I broke the key in the door. I also realized that I had forgotten something important there. (Again, can't remember what). I went back into the building, which is now rundown, to try and find a way back. There was an old woman sitting at a table, the only thing in this place. I asked her if she knew of the history of this place and if anything had been found over the years. Assuming I had time traveled and the object could still be recovered.

She told me that I couldnt get to where I wanted to go anymore, but as a way to make me feel better, she would let me choose four stones from a collection spread across her table. I picked the four most colorful ones, realizing they all had keys attached to them. Me and the woman following me left the building again. I turned and put the first stone key in the door we just used and opened it.

This time we were inside a church of some kind. Entering from behind the podium the preacher would stand at. The place was packed with people. But they were messed up. Blank stares and seemed the have trouble using their limbs. Some seemed deformed and gimped. They were all standing in from of their seats doing some synchronized dance and making noises.

When we entered, their attention was drawn to me. I would wave an arm or make a sound and they would mimic it in unison. After a few moments they seemed to be getting agitated. I was becoming really uneasy myself so I tried to ease my way back to the door. At this moment, this little person/thing ran to me, trying viciously to bite me. Like it was the only thing he knew. I tried to pry him away and noticed his eyes were missing. He was very skinny and small, but strong.

I struggled with him for a while until the woman finally helped me. She tied him up, which seemed wouldn't hold for long, and we ran out the door, slamming it and closing off that dimension.

I really didn't trust this "guide" at this point. I felt that she was a part of my personality, but vindictive, and wanted to mess with me. I tried to make her disappear from my dream by gathering my consciousness (I hope that makes sense) but she was just standing there. It wasnt until this point that I noticed she was physically a female version of me. She simply told me that wasn't going to work, and asked me if I'm ready to have more fun.

So there it is. Long and weird. Hopefully someone is willing to try and make sense it.

This is a great dream. I don’t claim to understand everything in this dream but I do have a few ideas.

A few comments about dream interpretation –
      • Most of our dreams are meant to be feedback to the dreamer. They let the dreamer how he/she is doing psychology or spiritually.
      • Whenever possible, I look for a literal or almost literal interpretation. This method will not work for this dream.
      • I believe that most of our dreams are not meant to be taken literally. These dreams are often filled with religious symbols. These symbols are not always Christian – some may Hindu or even pagan.
      • I use the ideas of Carl Jung to interpret many of symbolic dreams. Thus, the psyche (which is the mind) contains the consciousness and the unconscious.
      • The sequence of events is often important in a dream. When some bad or good happens, we can look at the previous events in a dream to determine the cause of the downturn or upswing.

      On with the dream –

As the dream opens, the dreamer is in a “dank/dark underground castle type setting….” This is a very good sign. The castle represents the dreamer in some way – perhaps the dreamer’s psyche. It is a good sign because it is a symbol of the collective unconscious (of psychology) or the lower realms of the shaman.

The dreamer is some “sort of demon.” This is also good because as a demon the dreamer is more easily able to travel through the lower world.

Some creatures captured your dream family. If the family consists of at least two other males and one female, the dreamer and these three people may represent personifications of the four cognitive functions of Jungian psychology. These four functions (thinking, feeling, sensation and intuition) are typically seen in a man’s dream as three males and one female. The male dreamer and another male would be the primary and secondary functions. The other male and the female would represent the two “inferior” functions. We sometimes see this grouping in myths, fairy tales etc. A modern example is the heroes of Star Wars (Luke, Hans, Chewbacca and Princess Leia).

There are tombs in this dream – another good sign. Tombs are the abode of the dead, which is another indication of the lower realm.
The dreamer sees “that every entrance to our castle connected to another part of the world.” In this way, the castle reminds me of the Yggdrasil, the world tree of Norse mythology.
You wrote, “The other demons that had escaped (I think there were three) were concerned about the one we lost.” Thus, we once again see the symbolism of the four. This is reminiscent of stories such as Goldilocks and the three bears, and the three little pigs and the big, bad wolf. In these and other stories, it is three against one or one against three.
You have encountered a woman. She helps you explore. She has gold skeleton key – another very good symbol. In the real world gold is a precious metal. Owning gold is a sign of wealth and power. In our dreams, it is also a very good sign; but, this is a spiritual wealth.

      About this woman –
She sounds like she is a symbol of the dreamer’s anima. As noted by Jung, the anima is an archetype (and like all archetypes it is a product of the collective unconscious). The anima is always female and is only found in the psyche of men. The anima has the capability of going through four stages of development. At this first stage, she is the primitive woman. She is might be a savage, a woman of another race etc. At the second stage, she becomes the romantic woman – like a girlfriend. At the third stage, she is the good woman. She might show herself as a nun. At the fourth and last stage, she becomes a guide. She helps the dreamer explore the world and people of the psyche – especially the underworld.

You attempt to have some control over your dream and things seem to fall apart. Thus, trying to control your dream is probably not a good plan.

The dream continues with other, somewhat similar, images.

      Hope this helps,
      Lugus
