I've dreamed about this a couple of times. Whenever i'm wearing a back pack in a dream i automatically take it off. I feel lighter and more free when i do it, so maybe you could use the back pack to your advantage? Use it as a kind of liberation once you get rid of it. I also tend to discard my jacket in a dream at times.
