      Do dreams always contain meaning?

      Do Dreams always contain meanings?
This is just a general question I was wanting to get eveyone's views on. Personally i do not think a dream always has meaning or hidden messages behind them. Actually for the most part I would say most dreams can be dismissed as just random thoughts or images formed by the subconscious during sleep. Sure some dreams could have profound significance and meaning behind them but I don't think we should over analyze every dream we get and try to find hidden meanings to them..

Now please keep in mind this is just an opinion so if replying to this lets be respectful to everyones opinion

      thanks

I completely agree with you. Most dreams are meaningless random images. And i do agree that some dreams have meaning too, but those are rare, and you can tell when you have those.

I guess it is just speculation at this point. In a science aspect, they think it is a necessary cognitive function to allow the brain to review and consolidate information gathered while we are awake.
As far as meaning I personally think that you can extract meaning from your subconscious. IMO... they are not signs from above or from anyone or thing other than your own intuition and insight. at best there may be some clairvoyance associated with dreams.
Hopefully someday we will have better answers rather than theories and speculation.

Yes absolutely, dreams always have meaning. They are anything but just random thoughts etc.. Anyone who has spent a great deal of time and effort in learning the meaning in symbolism no longer even asks such a question.

Dreams have their own language and rules which need to be studied. You cannot expect a first grader to get much out of an article written by Einstein. We get out of dreams what we have put into mastering its language. A little knowledge of psychology also helps greatly.

All dreams serve as the Lord's vehicle of correction. Thus any subject can become the focus of a dream. They are not all "big dreams" but still important .
Once you begin to get what a dream is saying, you will never doubt their meaningfulness again.

Good point ElizVanZee and possibly so, I have heard many sides to this arguement but have come to no real conclusion on my own just yet. Can you recommend any other websites that might help offer more insights to this?

i say that most dreams dont have any meaning. That said, most dreams are just random images, thrown together with a nonsensical storyline, and involving many thoughts of the previous day. Yet, sometimes, dreams have deep, profound, meanings, that involve lots of symbolism & such. But don't think that you have to research every dream just because you want to find a hidden meaning. After all, they are just dreams.

The issue with this is that there is no universal language. Yours may be the Lord's vehicle where mine may be my inner thoughts. Both ambiguous an open for debate. So it makes it difficult to find practical answers for what could be hundreds of dreamsigns on one dream.

If its some sort of dream language we are supossed to understand then who came up with it and how do we know its right? I was told that dreaming about a dead person means someone is going to have baby soon, and dreaming of water signified some tragic event was going to take place.. So interpritation would depend more on the person who had the dreams point of view and what feeling they were left with once they had awaken..

So far seems everyone is split on this, but its certainly interesting to get different points of view on this.. Thanks everyone

I can say for sure that those books that claim to to hold the key to dreams like 10,000 dreams interpreted are a JOKE.
      Lets see .
Dreaming of tornadoes = Your life is a whirlwind WOW what a epiphany to have discovered.

DreamKnight, there are many websites that offer some help, providing theories of interpretation and techniques (search under "dream interpretation") but I cannot without reservations recommend any in particular. The main thing is to view a dream as if a letter written in a foreign language or code and set about
translating it as you would such a letter. For this the crucial factor is an understanding of symbols. CowMan339, for example, wrote: "Yet, sometimes, dreams have deep, profound, meanings, that involve lots of symbolism & such." This statement, to me, shows some misunderstanding because every image in a dream - the house, car, banana, person, flower etc - is a symbol. Thus all dreams are made up of only but symbols. There is a meaning in a house, a car, a banana etc. which one needs to become aware of. The
"nonsensical storyline" CowMan339 referred to is also a bit of a necessity to avoid censoring by the ego.

What I would recommend as most useful to you, is to keep a dictionary of your own dream images and try to ascertain the meaning of them by consulting a variety of dream dictionaries as well as note how other interpreters translate an image/symbol. Try out these meanings and keep looking until you find one that
seems most reasonable. There is a great deal of nonsense in many dictionaries. Your example: "I was told a dead person means someone is going to have baby soon, and dreaming of water signified some tragic event
was going to take place.", is a perfect example of irrational nonsense. Someone perhaps dreamed of a dead person and a baby came into the world shortly after and a connection was "assumed". Also the more specific the meaning, the more you will get out of your dreams. An image translated as meaning "this represents your life", for example, is useless. Question the meanings by asking "why does it mean that?" Can you find a sensible reason. If not, scrap it.

I agree that dreams do reflect our inner thoughts and feelings - but how they have been presented in the dream is what is remarkable. Dreams speak on many levels and show an Intelligence at work that goes beyond human ability. Personally I would disagree that an "interpretation would depend more on the person who had the dreams point of view and what feeling they were left with once they had awaken.." - because there is a basic meaning in each symbol which does not vary from person to person if the interpretation is rational rather than simply emotional.
