Nobody's answered this yet? That sucks. BTW, your original post was lost because a problem with out forum's host lost ALL data including posts over the past four days. Anyway, I'll take a stab.

Some sort of obstacle or ambition? Actually, perhaps a better idea would be CURIOSITY. You wanting to get to the top of the mountain perhaps indeicates a curiousity to see what's on top.

Typical loss of control in dreams. Two possible reasons: Firstly, it could indicate a feeling of helplessness in your real-life with regards to an issue in this dream. Secondly, and perhaps more mundane, is the explanation that in dreams, technology has a tendency to fail. I have a theory about this, all to do with the areas in which technologuical and natural objects, respectively, are recognised in the human brain. Our dreams tend to be more disconnected with recognition and comprehension of technological objexcts, so they malfunction more in dreams.
Could be the first explanation, though: lack of control.

Fear resulting from lack of control. Possibly fear of death, but perhaps more likely a more vague fear about loss of control.

Curiosity again.

I came out into the light and was on the ledge I'd been trying to get to. Looking over the edge, I saw a lot of others climbing the mountain, and more coming to the mountain to climb it. It was some view. Then I got thinking "What about my husband and boys! How will they ever get along without me!"

Perhaps indicates that what you're curious about, and maybe are afraid of loosing control over, is something that many others go through? A recognition that you're not entirely alone in the crisis?
Okay, in this dream, I'm sort of getting the impression of a general fear of loss of control and curiosity. I'm, sorry I can't be more specific, but it's hard without knowing more personal details. Perhaps some sort of midlife or quarterlife crisis? Or perhaps something or someone you are curious about has the risk of causing you to loose control, and endanger your relationship with husband and family?
I know how crap and vague that sounds. Kind of reads like one of those stupid vague horoscope predictions, I know. But, any feedback? What sounds right, what sounds wrong? Any more elaboration on the dream or real life you're willing to give?
By the way, I like the avatar. What is it? Looks vaguely celtic, pre-middle ages... welsh? Reminds me vaguely of the Mabinogion or some other Celtic legend... Looks a little too modern and clear to be authentic, though. Faux-Celtic or celtic-inspired or something?
