Hello. I am new to this forum. I joined because I am having a frightening reoccurring dream about my daughter. It bothers me enough to try and get some help/explanations or advice.

There are only parts of the dream I can remember, and usually I don't remember any of it when I get out of bed, but when I wake up first thing in the morning I know I have had the dream many times. This morning I woke up in tears and vividly remembered some serious parts to the dream and I haven't forgotten any of them through-out the day.

I dreamed that my 9 year old daughter went missing and I searched everywhere in our neighbourhood for her. I was in a panic and I eventually called the police. The dream gets fuzzy here but the police end up bringing her to me and she tells me that she was molested for three hours. She is very calm and almost adult-like while telling me this...although she still looks like a child and sounds like a child, just her attitude and demeanour is adult-like. I start to cry and I tell her we are going to the hospital and we are going to talk to the police. She starts to cry and tell me she isn't okay.....and I wake up in tears and hyperventilating......

Like I said, I know I have had this dream many times before, but this is the first time I have remembered it for more than the first few seconds of me waking up and still laying in my bed. I'm sorry to put something like this out to you guys, but I'm freaking out!! Is my dream trying to tell me something? Am I dreaming of what could or is going to happen to my daughter??

I talked to my Mom about this dream and she told me dreams aren't meant to be taken literally and that nightmares are usually worries that you don't want to happen.

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can offer.
BTW I'm open to answering any questions you may have about my life situation if you think that would help me to figure this out.

Well... firstly, don't take the dream literally. Try to take different perspectives when trying to discover the meaning of the dream. This dream is covering a serious fear you have concerning your daughter. So firstly, you should calm down and try to look at the dream objectively. Pick out the bits you remember and examine them. Any noticeable colours, the mood of the dream, feelings, etc. Often, with recurring dreams, there is always something different about them each time you dream them, and it is often within these differences that a lot of the meaning of the dream can be found.

Sorry if I make 2 replies here. My first disappeared when I clicked on something :-(

You don't say if you're a he or a she. I'm guessing you're a she and my reply is based on that.

First, your Mum is right. Don't take the dream literally and certainly don't assume it's a prophecy. However certainly do take note of what has come to your awareness that has you feeling as scared as that. Second, your dream daughter is not your real daughter. She is actually a part of you.

I'm struck by the contrast between the adult-sounding daughter who says she's OK and the crying daughter who isn't. Is this how you feel yourself? Does your inner child need to cry? Your internal police brought her to you for some reason.

The number 3 appears in your dream, suggesting to me something to do with being a 3 year old. I'm not necessarily suggesting you were abused but you may have felt violated or scared of being violated in some way. These are just ideas of the kind of messages the dream may be bringing you.

Good advice above, but it is important you realise these dreams are JUST dreams! I often had reoccurring dreams about my baby sibling twins. I think in todays society and the undenying love you have for your child it is not uncommon for parents to worry about their children. And your dreams are just natural worries you have.

How often do these dreams happen?
