      Scary Black Dog

I had this dream probably sometime around 2000 or 2001.

I was on a public bus that had a door in the middle of the bus like some of them do. The front half of the bus had seats on both sides with an aisle down the middle, but the back half was more like stadium seating without an aisle. I was sitting at the front of the stadium seating, just barely behind the door in the side of the bus. The people sitting behind me felt familiar like they were my family, but I never looked back to see who specifically they were because I should have already known if I had gotten on the bus with them. The door in the side of the bus was like a helicopter door and was always open. There was a walkway and a railing along the side of the bus so you could walk along the outside of it to the front or back. The bus was also about 20 feet in the air. The wheels were on the road below, and were connected to the bus in the air.

The bus was driving along and then it hit something and stopped. I leaned forward and looked down out the door and saw a black dog on the side of the road that we had just hit. I'm not sure what type it was, but it was about the size of a labrador. It started stirring, then got up and looked around. Then it looked right up at me and stared. (I'm getting very intense goosebumps right now just remembering it). It kept staring at me and started barking loudly. I was a little afraid, but took comfort in the fact that I was way up here and it couldn't get to me. Its barking became louder and more desperate and it tried in vain to jump up to the bus. It kept trying to jump, barking wildly, falling down, and going back to get a running start to increase its jump. It was very desperate to get up to the bus. Then, it jumped and I saw barely the top of it's head reach the floor of the bus. I sat back quickly. It had somehow gotten this high and I was pretty afraid now. With the next jump, it got its head and front paws up onto the walkway right outside the open door and climbed up onto it. Then looked right at me, and charged directly for me. It jumped at me, but instead, jumped over me at the person behind me. Then I woke up.

Everytime I tell this dream, even though it was several years ago, I get mad goosebumps all over, sometimes even watery eyes, while telling about the part with the dog. Sometimes it gets hard to talk like when you are trying not to cry. Once while telling it, I actually did end up breaking down and crying because I was so overcome with emotion, though it is always fear that I feel from it, not sadness. I am NOT one to cry easily or often.

      Idec, your dream may represent the following;

You are afraid of your own latent or suppressed anger - afraid of unleashing it on those closest to you.

The bus in your dream represents a life journey and the stadium seating represents a voyeuristic approach you and/or your family might have taken with regard to the following events.
I took the black dog as a symbol of depression. Of course i could be wrong so it depends on how this might relate to your life. When he starts snarling at you, your afraid that its going to hurt you. However, the dog attacks someone behind you, a member of your family.
Does anyone you know suffer from depression? Has it affected you?

Nemo, I am afraid of unleashing anger on anyone. I never even considered that. It's not something I'm really conciously afraid of, I guess because supressing it has become so automatic that most of the time I probably don't even know that something has angered me.

timeless petal, no one in my family suffers from even slight depression that I know of. My best friend who lives in another state has suffered from it for as long as I've known her. Could that be it? I met her after I graduated from high school in late 2001 and it affected me greatly because depression, especially self mutilation, was a very foreign concept to me and it was just heart-wrenching to imagine she felt like that all the time. I felt even worse because I cared for her and none of my attempts helped her at all. In fact, a lot of them made her upset and, according to her, made things worse because I was trying to interfere with her life.

didnt you say that you HAD this dream around that time???

      a bit confused there..

but my explanation is close to what they;ve been saying...
maybe the dog represents something that you are fearful of, an obvious answer. could respresent anger or depression, but maybe its something so obvious like a fear of death. maybe its a sort of growing up... you think youre safe as you leave high school (which is around this time that u had the dream, right?), symbolized by te bus being 20 feet up, but you really are afraid of what will happen. the dog might be cutting off ties w/ ur family and friends and 'ppl that you know well' or the 'ppl b ehind you on the bus' as it attacks them and as you went into college.

if i havee the totally wrong years im sorry, but thats what i think could be an explanation

Well, this is the first time I've ever recorded this dream. I've always just remembered it in my head until now, so 2000 or 2001 is a ballpark figure. I graduated in June of 2001 and I met Kelli a month or so after that. This dream could have been before or after I met her.

I was telling this dream to my ex-girlfriend's brother's fiance...lol. Okay, my ex is Laura. Laura's brother is Will. Will's fiance is Judie. I was telling this to Judie, who is Irish and is Wiccan, and while I was telling the dream to her, she kept saying that the dog wasn't trying to get to me, it was trying to get to someone behind me. She said the dog was protecting me from someone close to me who turned out to be a not-so-good person.

Well, anyway, thanks for the opinions. I really can't be certain about this dream any more than I could before, but your thoughts are good things to consider.

that is another good idea but the fact that you were scared of the dog also must be taken into consideration

      good luck interpreting!
