      killing dream

I had a dream in which I was protecting my 6 year old sister from my younger brother. He came in and tried to go after her, presumably to take her life. I was forced to throw him onto the counter, picked up a knife, and slit his throat. During this struggle he managed to kick my little sister who was sitting on the counter not far away from us. After killing him, I felt despair, guilt, and incredible sadness for having done that, but I knew I had to to protect my sister. When I saw my mother next, she asked where my brother was, I replied: "it had to be done," and as if she knew the situation, she automatically realized I had killed him and became histerical.

-that was one of the most vivid and emotionally stimulating dreams (nightmares) I ever had, if not the most. It felt so real. What could this possibly mean, the killing of one sibling to protect another?

It's not them (siblings and mother) but parts of you manifesting as them in your dream. And it sounds like internal conflict.

You have a vulnerable part of you (your sister in your dream), an agressive/anihilative part of you (your brother) and a nurturing/authoritarian part (your mother) none of which you take as part of your real self (the "protector" in the dream who kills only as a last resort). Your protective actions meant denying/repressing/removing the aggressive part of you which may have made logical sense but the nurturing part of you can't stand this self-anihilation. Perhaps if you can nurture your agressive instincts, which seem to be turned inwards in the dream, you'll feel more whole?

Sounds good BU. I would also like to add that maybe to find any conflicting character traits or personality issues within yourself that you see exactly what your brothers worst traits are that you dislike and what traits of your sister you would like to embrace the most.

Maybe you see your brother as selfish, or kniving or deviant or whatever and you wish to supress any part of you that wants to go one of these directions. And on the opposite side you may see your little sister as sweet, innocent or gentle etc...and wish to protect these aspects of yourself and embrace them more.

The best way to figure out the good and bad aspects would be to take notice the next time you get a nagging feeling that what you are saying or doing is not quite right with you and alternatively whenever you get a feeling that what you are saying or doing makes you feel happy then strive to go more in this direction and abandon the other. Sorry if it sounds a little confusing. I am pretty exhausted in RL and struggling for the words which should come easily to me, but I hope you get the idea.

BU and Vision, thank you for this detailed analysis, I definately believe in the implications of the dream. Its amazing that dreams can reveal so much about ourselves, and in a way offer some sort of advice or solution to our inner conflicts. I will take your analysis to heart and try to understand my inner self. Thank you again.
