the first possible meaning I thought of, was whether or not you have a back problem, because you said you actually woke up crying, and that seems unusually intense. so I'm wondering if you're experiencing pain while you sleep only it isn't waking you up. physical pains/feelings can cause you to have a dream that relates to it. (like sometimes if you're hungry in your sleep you'll dream about eating). this seems unlikely, but I'm trying to cover every possibility. maybe you've been sleeping in a bad position lately? I don't know. what do you think? do you have any reason to believe you might have back pains?
if that isn't the case, then here is what I think. if you haven't had contact with the first person in eight years, then I doubt the dream has anything to do with that person, unless you feel like there is something between the two of you that has not been resolved, and needs to be. if that isn't the case, then the dream is probably referring to an attitude or some personality trait of that person.
what I would do is, write down everything you can think of about the first person, things that stand out to you. then do that with the second person, and see if there is something related. if you don't see anything, then perhaps you're just afraid that the guy you talk to will become (or secretly is) like the first person? maybe deep down you're afraid they will betray you?
I also think the things Pegasis and Jeff suggested are worth considering. could there be something you're currently doing that is hurting youself, that you didn't realize? something that relates to any of the people involved in the dream?
or are you currently dealing with some other rivals, that might have something in common with the people you dreamed about?
hope I've helped.
