      Please help with my dream

I was on my first day at Safeway in Grand Coulee, Washington (70
miles away from where I live, and also my hometown) and I am
management there. It was a completely different system for the
registers than I had ever seen before and I went to ring somebody
up and they gave me $3 to pay for their candy or whatever they
bought that had come to $2.01, and for some reason I had to scan
the dollars like they were an item to let them pay. One of the
dollars (the last one I scanned) was not scanning correctly, and
looked different. I knew in this dream that a new dollar had
come out that day, and I didn't know how to scan it, but the
"barcode" which was right in the center and was like a little
square was there. Anyways, in the background there was a kid
(maybe 7-8 years old) taking a picture of their grandma, and they
took it, laughed, and fell over and got back up. The rest of the
managers had a purple vest on, but I didn't get one for some
reason. I saw 2 of them in this dream. I told the people with
the dollar that I would go find change or something so I went to
where the money was and they didnt have normal register trays
there but there were trays with money and I couldn't find another
dollar. I went back and got it to work, and that is when I woke
up. Now for a little background, I work as a asst. manager for
an AUTO parts store...weird to me. I just went up for a
promotion, but I didn't get it. What could this dream be trying
      to tell me?

Perhaps not so much telling you something as revealing to you something about yourself. There's a lot of symbolism in your dream which I think you need to work on to find the interpretation that works for you. Try a dream dictionary, but don't just go with its suggestion - make sure it makes sense to you. (The colour purple, the dollars, the barcode etc)

I was interested in the numbers. 3 dollars, then two dollrs then one cent. 3-2-1. Like the dream was counting down to something.

What did the child and grandma invoke in you? It could be something about when you were 7 or 8. Or, some say, it may refer to an event 7 or 8 years ago.

The new system could be a new way of operating. Again, what part of you does the cash management system mean?

I can't think of an obvious interpretation here but one may emerge as this thread devlops.

Dreams usually one reaction. They show us an idea. Tehre are some clues
GRANDMA : Someone who is fiddly and slow.
SAFEWAY : an obvious wordplay - The need to follow a safe and secure pathway
NEW DOLLAR:Unable to cope with some thing new and unfamiliar
Its difficult to say exactly what the dream means. But most dreams capture some key insight. eg

"Perhaps its best that i FAILED to get thsi promotion. Maybe I would have fdound things difficult if I had encountered something new"

      OR

"Maybe I am too safe and lacking dynamics in some new situation. Those in cahrge are laughing at me and my inabilites."

Its difficult for me to guess. But precise conceptual ideas are being played out here. Its likely that soem new realisation entered your mind at the time of the dream. But at thew end of the day this story.. safeways is just a story. And we all have a different reaction to a story. Thats what makes interpretation difficult. We all react differently to poems and songs. Its emotional

      ------------------------
Often one symbol in a dream will seemingly have no relationship to any other. Totally bizarre things happen and there seems to be no sense to the dreams meaning. Thats because some symbols have a very cryptic meaning. A parachute may simply express the need to escape from a very difficult relationship. The need to land safely is a direct comparison to the need to land safely in an emotional sense. Yet within the context of the dream it makes no sense. It seems confusing and funny when we describe a moment when our granny gets hit by a parachutist. But dreams are like that. One portion of the dream makes no real sense within the story of the dream. Yet its meaning is there. The trick is to weave together various symbols. So see how that parachutist links within your own real life thoughts. So if you woke up that morning and felt "Yesterday I started to realise that I need to get out of my relationship with my boyfriend. He is being totally abusive. Right now I just need to escape with as little fuss as possible". Its likely that this dream about a parachutist is directly linked to those real life thoughts. Then start to piece together a wider meaning to the dream. Look at the possible symbolic meanings to the other symbols and try to see what the dream is saying overall.
