      Breeding lizards in the kitchen

      Hi guys,
Here's a dream that I keep getting to trying to figure out its meaning and I will appreciate comments.
The dream takes place in my childhood home in the kitchen. I first notice
a black snake passing through the kitchen... no harm done. Then I notic
on the kitchen floor two lizards doing it and breeding rapidly right in front
of my eyes, to the point that the floor became covered with baby lizards.
I remember thinking that breeding was taking place in the right time for them.
It was as if I was witnessing a process that would naturally would take years become a matter of seconds. I guess it evoked fear in me so my immediate reaction was to somehow stop the process by trying to kill the lizards, but for some reason I felt an urge or a need to document the process of breeding with my camera. EOD

In reality I am going through a process of emotional healing of my past memories, I am undergoing change in my life. Snake is associated with fear but in the dream the snake was
simply passing by. Lizards are associated with fear also but maybe less "rational" and also quickness or elusivness. Camera, photography is my hobby, I love taking pictures. Kitchen, I like cooking, I guess even in childhood I liked spending time in the kitchen.
Still the dream is a puzzle to me.
What bothered me was the lack of distinct emotional reaction in the dream and I am thus not sure if it's a warning or a beneficial projection.

      Thanks for any comments.

I've heard that lizards symobilize growing creativity. Are you engaged in anything creative these days?

      creativity

hi, thanks for the comment. intersting. Actually I am considering a few creative moves in my life but they are all in my head right now.actually one of them is getting into photography professionaly.... could it be that the dream is commenting on this desire. I can see the kitchen location associated with creativity. maybe it is saying that it is the right time to bring to life creative ideas?

You may be on to something.

Perhaps the plans in your head are causing some anxiety (the snake), but your heart is telling you to go for it and go for it but good (the breeding lizards).

yes, you seem to be right. The kitchen could suggest that something is cooking or being prepared for manifestation. there is fear of creation, maybe basically my creativity block. I once read that snake also represents creative-wisdom, however the fact that it was black , takes it as you said to the side of fear or negativity. I feel this dream has both the snake bite as well as the antidote, the fix.
I guess we always have intuition on our dreams, but I tend to overshadow it
with negative thoughts, which in a funny way portrayed in the dream.
you've taken me away from the snake and closer to the fix ... :-)

      thanks a lot for that.

      blocking creativity thru fear

just hit on an article that reassures the subject matter of the dream, as you said it's about creativity but also the fear that blocks it.
      it's about lizard-brain , here's the link if you're interested

Its often very difficult to tell if a symbol is a symbol. Here the lizards are linked with some bizare imagery. The breeding and the breeding with a camera is making the symbolism very complex. The lizard may just be a symbol of something extremely photogenic. Something worth taking a shot of.

To understand the dream mind you need to understand neural networks. Neural networks store up information by comparing one thing to another. They store moments when you felt similar. For instance one time you may feel extremely exhausted after you finished some exams. So when you have a dream it may point to this event as a way of expressing how you feel about some current event. Put simply a dream therefor says "I felt tired yesterday after completing the work tasks. I was really as tired as I was after I finished my exams last year". So a dream really express our feelings by pointing to a series of unrelated metaphors.
Dreams tend to build up a meaning using a series of metaphors. So a dream may feature you "feeling tired", "feeling confused doing a puzzle" and finally "getting drunk". So the dream mind is actually building up a set of feelings by pointing to a series of feelings you felt previously. These seemingly unrelated events and feelings may simply be pointing to the previous day when "I felt tired yesterday at work. I steadily getting more confused. By the end of the day I was totally incapable of making any rational judgements". So in that way getting drunk expresses how you felt INCAPABLE at work the previous day. Its in this way that metaphors build up a dreams meaning. But the dream mind is refering to these almost like a list such as "felt as tired as I was during the exams", "felt very confused" and "I was aiming for a target".

well I try to build on your idea that the lizards imagery stands for something photogenic. But i do not believe dreams content is arbitrary (especially in rare times when I manage to find reason in them ) My knowledge on lizards that I held prior to this dream was that lizards have the ability to let go of their tails for survival thus representing letting go of the past. I am in such a time in my life, need to release the past. Now it seems like letting go is also about shifting the focus from the black snake (negativity) to focusing on the beautiful side of life (my fondness for photography) seeing the beauty and giving up struggle or survival mode (my initial knee jerrk reaction wanting to kill the lizards). We know that what we focus on expands.

What unclesirbob said reminds me of Star Trek: Next Generation, "Sometimes a cat is just a cat."

did he really say that!? that's very reptilian. I guess that would be the same atitude of my dream-snake towards the dream-lizards for example... a lizard is just a lizard... protein-rich meal.... it's a jungle out there.

Sorry for my lack of clarity. When he said, "Its often very difficult to tell if a symbol is a symbol," the first thing that popped into my head is "sometimes a cat is just a cat." It was probably the structure of the sentence but not the meaning behind the words. I sometimes see odd patterns that others do not.

Well your idea is good. Its really a matter of just exploring every possibility.

      ------------------
In dreams your thoughts are portrayed in a very abstract way using images and feelings. A dream will normally refer to some new feeling or conclusion regarding your life. Dreams then are about ideas and higher intuitional thinking. But there are real problems associated with understanding dreams. A dream will refer to situations in your life which are very complex and really impossible for me or anyone else to imagine. A snake in dreams is a very general theme which can have a million and one real meanings. That symbol has a very real and precise meaning in terms of your recent thinking.
