      Nearly drowning

So in last night's dream, I was driving down the road, not any road I know in real life, listening to the radio with my brother in the passenger side seat. Suddenly, I realize that the road in front of me is flooded with water. The car in front of me drives into the water, and slowly starts to sink. Now, I think that for some reason I could cross the large body of water, whereas the car in front of me couldn't.

I want to note that neither me or my brother seemed surprised by the suddenly flooded road.

So I drive into the water, and we start to sink, but it looks like we might make it across. Water starts to fill up in my car, and soon it is up to my face and I can feel cold water starting to flow into my mouth as I try to spit it back out. Then I can feel it start to go up my nose. I can't get over how real it seemed, even now, it's more like a memory of an actual occurence instead of a dream. It doesn't take long for the car to fill up, and I think I'm going to drown. My brother opens his door and gets out of the car and starts to swim up. I take off my seatbelt, panicking now, and try to open my door. But I forget that my doors lock automatically, so I fumble around trying to unlock the door. I finally hit the button and open my door and I start to swim. As I reach the surface I wake up.

Another interesting note, as I was trying to get out of my car, I hear an announcer on the radio saying that a flood killed six people in "downtown Lenoir", which happens to be the town that I live in.

Any idea what this might mean? Or was it just a random dream?

      Hi Fableflame,

I was reading your post and flooding and drowning (even if it's just almost) usually have to do with emotions. Infact, water in general is the element of emotions. Usually when you have flooding in your dreams, it's a sign of repressed emotions or emotional turmoil. Same thing with drowning. The fact that your home town was mentioned could either be the source of the turmoil or it could just be randomness. Did you speak with anyone from there recently? Or are you thinking of returning for a visit? Some other questions are:

Did you have a difficult day, especially on an emotional level?

Do you think of your brother as a "shoulder to cry on"? That could explain why he was there.

      Hope this helped!!!

Interesting. I didn't know that about water as a symbol for emotional turmoil. Even more innteresting that i nearly drowned in it huh?
And I actually live in the town that was mentioned on the raido, its not just my hometown, i still live there.
I didn't really have a bad day, it was same as any other day.
And my brother is far from someone that I would use as a shoulder to cry on, but recently i've been driving to and from school.
This shit never happens to me

I would call this a preventative dream. You may have been on the verge of some understanding or on the way to some preselected destination which would be an action of choice instead of being lead by the dream. So the water was a way to prevent whatever your previous determination was by distracting you with drowning.

Notice how both you and your brother were completely fine with the beginning of the situation and until it became dire did you respond, although by then the evidence of drowning was too realistic to respond and avoid.

It's points like these though that you can have a realization of consciousness and if you refuse to be afraid of breathing under water can enter a lucid state.
