I had my first (real) lucid dream experience this morning! I woke up around 4:30 (I think) and attempted to do a WILD by visualizing numbers as I counted them and thought "I'm dreaming" (which sometimes turned into "I"m singing" as I lost consciousness). The WILD attempt seemed to fail, and I got uncomfortable, so I turned over onto my side and decided to fall asleep.. but the sleep paralysis was still there, so I thought, what the heck, I'll just see what happens. It was now 5:00 (I think, waking memories aren't as solid anymore) and I just sat in bed, feeling myself fall asleep.
I had a dream about sitting in a room in school with my band director and some other kids and being announced 1st chair euphonium. I don't play euphonium, and George Bush was announced 2nd chair, and he was a black kid with short hair, but I think I rationalized this by saying that it was a joke. These results were announced on a t.v., so I guess I thought it was KDGN, the announcement show our school puts on.
Then we walked to the cafeteria while I talked to a girl named H.L. who plays bari sax and suggested to her that she must sound really good now that she was practicing so much, to which she played a note that I thought at the time was unremarkable sounding. I asked her something to the effect of, "So I guess they're going to lecture us on drugs or something" and I can't remember her response. The halls looked like my middle school (though I'm in high school now) So, in the cafeteria, my friend E.P. and some other people appeared and we figured out that there was a game activity! You sat down at a table to play the board game that had been set out. First my friends couldn't decide. They sat down at a table with the game Sorry and then moved to the table that had bingo, which I thought would be boring, so we then moved to a table with crossword puzzles, which made me happy. My friend T.T. was given a word games sheet that I thought looked lame. I got a crossword that didn't look very fun, but funner than the last one. Some of the words were already filled in on mine, so I had to erase them.
I was now on a bike trying to figure out this word, riding along a darkened road with a friend, maybe L.C., but not sure. I soon forgot even what the clue was that I was trying to figure out and my friend dissapeared, I became scared because I couldn't remember the clue for the crossword and because there was an ominous wood near. I was sort of being pulled toward the woods, and I could hear howling.[COLOR="DarkRed"] At this point, I forgot that I had previously been dreaming and assumed that I was still conscious. Before my first dream, I had been "observing" myself fall asleep and when I started this segment of the dream, I assumed that the dream was materializing. I could feel myself walking.. After hearing howling noises, I decided to get on a bike, because I was scared. One sort of appeared underneath me (I couldn't see anything) and I could feel myself peddle it. It was very hard to peddle. Somewhere in there I began to see again, and I was in a neighborhood with the woods beside it.
I abandoned the bike because it was hard to peddle and walked down the road. I then tried a nose-pinch reality check and was sort of amused because while I had my nose pinched, the breath felt just like I didn't! I suddenly remembered that I was scared, and walked to a one-story house and jumped on the roof when I realized that something was chasing me. It was a little jaguar or cougar, but I was still scared, so I tried to shoot it with a conjured bow (I just made the bow draw-back motion, but nothing happened) and a spear. I'm don't think the jaguar died, but then I decided I could get away by teleporting, and I did so, to a room I visualized in London. There was a bed on one wall and a door that was through a little hallway past the door.
It was dark in the room (dagnabit) and I couldn't see well, so I drew the curtains and looked out on a city that looked distantly like New York City (I observed this in the dream) and I decided that it was a bad representation and I'd have to work on that. I then decided to try to get the lights on, because I was sort of scared again, tried several times (with a light switch by the window), even vocalizing it. It didn't work, so I decided to go out the window. I didn't do a reality check before doing so, (and I even thought during the dream, Oh, what the heck!) and jumped out the window. (I don't remember the room having a balcony, or the window having glass)
I was sort of afraid to fly, so I jumped down to where I was hanging on the balcony below. I got down about 7 floors from a room that had initially seemed to be about 20 stories high. I can't remember everything from this point. I felt the dream slipping a little, and went over to grab a thin tree (the kind with the flaky bark and little white spots on it from you-don't-even-want-to-know-what) and closed my eyes and hugged it, then rubbed my hands up and down the bark.
I felt stable after that, and walked down a brick path in a courtyard-type thing, where there were suddenly people. (The courtyard was connected to the building I had come out of, and had also not previously been there.) I looked at my hands and saw white spots (I assumed from rubbing my hands on the tree), and decided to ask a man about them. I asked something like, "Are they dangerous?" to which he replied "No, mine came off in a couple of (not sure)" Then I said, "Thank you, you're very nice" and he walked away and mumbled "you're nice, too". I could suddenly feel the position I was sitting in bed and tried to stablize it by laying down on the brick path on my back and feeling the contours, but I was too late, and I woke up. After a couple of seconds, I did a nose-pinch reality check and then decided to post.
All in all, I felt that it was pretty long for my first lucid dream, (about 10 minutes long). Some things I was concerned about were:
- seemed like I couldn't see very well, and I don't remember images well
- I couldn't remember the feeling of walking
- I didn't have the common sense to just sit down and calm myself down
- I was afraid!?!? of little jaguars and flying!
- After the fact, it seems much less real, and some memories, such as feelings are lost
Plusses:
- it was really long for a first LD
- I did feel some things very distinctly, such as peddling my bike
- I remembered about 90%
- I teleported pretty succesfully (even the room I was visualizing came out sort of right)
- I talked to a DC, and remembered dialogue
- remembered to do RCs and stabilizing techniques (one of which was successful)
- As I was in the dream, it felt very real
YES!
Some questions:
Will I have more... power over myself (i.e. fears, rationality, actions) with practice?
Will I feel more normal sensations such as walking?
Will I be able to control the lighting a little better? I don't like dark dreams
