      dreamtree's journal

Ok here goes. The start of my online dream journal, I'll start with a relatively short one from Monday night.

11/5/09: went to sleep at 21.40 wrote down dreams at 04.55 12/5/09

      Dream 1:
I was in some kind of bakery. I was working with about twenty other people, none of whom I recognize from WL. We were making little cakes in different shapes like croissants or small pastries, we were putting them on these trolleys with shelves. Someone said "That cake is so and so's" (They said a name but I can't remember it). Then I asked "Do you make one type of cake each?" There was no reply as far as I remember.
As we were working I looked out through a window. There was a woman sitting at a bus stop across the street and she was looking at me. I quickly looked away shyly. Every time I looked back she was still looking at me.
It was getting towards the end of the working day, it felt as though we were getting ready to go home. We were all sitting at a long table. Empty black plastic bin liners were being passed from the other end of the table towards my end.
It was one ladies birthday. I told her "Have a good time". Her daughter was there with her.

      Dream 2:
I was in some kind of army barracks building. Everone was on a break. I was reclining on a couch watching tv. I had a remote and was flicking through channels, there was nothing I wanted to watch. I was aware that a couple of other people were watching the same tv. I was worried about what they would think about my choice of tv channel. I didn't want to stop one anything so I just kept flicking.

Dreamsigns I could have spotted in these dreams:
      1. Context - The bakery and army barracks are places I would never find myself in WL.
      2. Action - The black bags being passed down the table, very dreamlike.

      Sliding Truck Dream

14/5/09 went to sleep at 21.40 - wrote down dreams at 04.34 15/5/09

      (1) I was driving my work truck with an old workmate S.E (who now lives abroad). I was trying to drive through the gate into the yard, but for some reason I couldn't drive properly, I was ripping up the turf on the grass verge to the side of the gate.
It was a saturday and we hade been doing a side job (a job for personal cash, a sackable offence). I thought that when our boss saw the track marks in the grass he would know what we had been doing.
Eventually I got the truck through the gates and onto the track leading to the yard. But the track was really slippery like it had been raining. The track was sliding all over the place, and I couldn't control it. S.E got ou and was pushing the truck from the side while I tried to steer. I was worried that if the truck got stuck the boss would know and we would be in trouble!
After much struggle we eventually got the truck back to its parking spot.
weebt into the office area but the layout was different, there were more rroms than usual and extra buildings. My friend P was there, we were about to go to a party and I was trying to find some clothes to wear.

      (2) I was with someone (I don't recall who), we were in a room which was filled with papers and folders and pile up top the ceiling and scattered everywhere. We were doing some kind of school homework answering questions about a science article from a magazine like "New Scientist" but it was called "Ecological Science"
Later I was at a dinner table with some of my mum's friends (but not one I know from WL). One of them lead me back into the room I was in before when doing the homework. She produced the answer sheet I had done earlier and asked "Now where is this from?"
"Its my answers from the New Scientist", I replied
      "No, not the new scientist"
      "Oh yes, sorry, Ecological Science,
"So you're not as intelligent as you pretend to be" she said condescendingly.
"I know I'm not that intelligent, and I don't pretend to be" I replied.

      Dreamsigns:
Action - the sliding truck, the way it was moving was totally not following the laws of physics.
Inner awareness - One of my personal dreamsigns is the feeling that I have done something wrong and am about to get caught or found out. This appears again here with the feeling that I was going to get in trouble for doing the side job.
Context - S.E is a person from my past, no longer in my daily WL. I often see people from my past in dreams, another personal dreamsign.
      - Layout of my workplace was altered, this often happens in dreams.
      - The room with all the papers everywhere, it was unlike any room you're likely to find yourself in in WL.
-The bizarre questioning by my mum's friend. Again unlikely in WL.

      Unhappy Booze = no recall

Drank too much beer last night, oops! So i didn't recall any dreams last night.

I've been doing the prospective memory exercise in EWOLD. Yesterday I remembered to RC for all the targets except "first time I use the toilet after noon". Today I've got one out of four so far. I don't think I've seen and advert or a bike yet, or maybe I did and didn't register it?

      Unhappy No recall again

I was hoping for some good dreams last night. I didn't get much REM last night because of the alcohol, so I thought I might get he rebound effect last night, but I didn't.

I went to sleep at around 5am. I lay still and tried to remember dreams, there was definitely something but I couldn't remeber it. Like it was on the tip of my tongue. Then I attempted WILD until 6am when I got up.

I only had 6 hours sleep last night and only about 5 the night before ( I usually get 7.5-8hrs). I do feel sleepy so I'll stay awake until 8am the go back to sleep and see what happens.

hey nice job keeping track of your dreamsigns. that's interesting because i seem to be a bit paranoid in some of my dreams, too, like i've just done something wrong. i'll have to remember that...
and your recall will become more consistent with time. keep it up!

      Afternoon nap

Cheers Cygnus. Yeah that paranoia/guilt can be pretty bad, a few times I've woken up thinking "I'm so glad that was just a dream"!

Anyway I had an afternoon nap from about 1.30 till 2.30pm today. I recalled a little fragment of a dream: I was in the garden of the house that I grew up in and I was building a second house next to the first one. I was using a hi-tech tool or piece of equipment of some kind.

Every part of this recollection is a dreamsign. Firstly being back in the garden childhood house. Secondly building a second house: weird. Thirdly the tool thing (I think that was a residue from the fact that I had just been reading about the DreamLight in LaBerge and that is a kind of hi-tech tool)

Even though I only remebered a little bit I'm pleased with this as its the first time I've ever recalled a dream from an afternoon nap. My recall must be getting better.

      A breakthrough of sorts

Last night I was semi-lucid in a dream for the first time and I had SP for the first time. The downside is that both experiences were terryfying! Anyway here's what happened:

I went to bed at 21:40 and started doing a WILD exercise focusing on hypnagogic imagery, it was the first time I have tried this exercise. Pin points of light on the back of my eyelids started swirling around and eventually started turning into recognizable images, some of them of girls in semi-clad states! Anyway I was deeply relaxed and enjoying this show, I carried on like this for what seemed like a long time I'd say about 90 mins. At some point I forgot about the exercise and drifted off to sleep non-lucidly.

The next thing I recall is being in a dream with a DC that was I very scared of. This was weird as he was a small boy in a cartoon style, kind of like manga but not in a scary way at all, almost cute. But I felt like he wished me harm and was deeply scared. But at this point I was aware that he was just a dream and I remebered something I had read that things in dreams only exist as long as you give them your attention, and that if you encounter something you don't like in a dream just focus on something else and it will vanish. But somehow I got this muddled and focused my attention on the boy which obviously didn't work.

I'm pleased that I reached this awareness that the boy was a part of a dream but I wouldn't say I was fully lucid and I don't recall it at all well. I'm pretty sure there were parts of the dream both before and after this scary boy that I've forgotten. I also don't remember how I became lucid, I don't think I RC'd at all.

The next thing I know I was awake in my bed with my eyes closed. I heard this panting sound, like a dog but more grotesque and louder as though it came from a much larger creature. At this point I thought that I had had a false awakening and was still dreaming. I tried not to let the sound scare me, I told myself it was not real. But the sound got louder, the creature was coming in through my bedroom door and up towards my bed. I also felt some kind of malevolent presence in the room. I tried to lift my head to see the creature but I couldn't move and couldn't open my eyes. This heightened the sense of fear. My heart started beating really fast and suddenly I woke up in a cold sweat. I say woke up but the only thing that changed was that the panting stopped and I could move.

The worst part of this was that although the panting stopped I could still feel this ghost-like evil presence in the room. I RC'd and decided that I was fully awake (time was 23:30). I had to turn the light on and read a book to take my mind off it, but I was spooked, the evil spirit thing remained for the night, eventhough I was aware it was only a figment of my subconscious. This was all quite unsettling for me as I haven't had a proper nightmare since I was a child.

At the time I thought the panting was part of the same semi-lucid dream as the scary boy part. But having read some posts on SP today I have decided that it must have been an hynopomic hallucination associated with SP.

As I tried to return to sleep last night I felt that I had brought about these nightmares by trying to induce LDs and that LDing was not for me. But today I'm a lot more positive about the whole thing, it was definitely a step in the right direction. But I get the feeling I will have to face a lot more of these demons on my journey!

      Bits of Dreams

Woke up 3 times last night with bits of dreams to write down each time:

      Went to bed 21:30

      woke 01:41
I was DJing (I do in RL). In an unfamiliar room. I was preparing for a performance of some sort. An unknown girl was watching me in the background.

      woke 02:46
I was in a supermarket with my Mum. I had gone off on my own to the freezer section looking for veggie sausages. I barged into a woman, we got into a massive argument. I got angry and started swearing. And it had been my fault!

      woke 04:11
I was with S (an ex girlfriend) It was the first time we had seen each other since we broke up. We were in bed together. We had sex, but there was another guy in the same bed with us asleep. But neither of us seemed to be bothered. We didn't use a condom, after we had finished I was worried about this.

I was in a botanic gardens with my Mum. We were in a glass house with sand on the floor. We were looking at a plant which looked like a passionflower. My mum had asked somebody who worked there about the plant. They were saying that this plant needed to have lazers shone on it to survive. My mum said that she used to have one of these plants but it had died. The assistant said that my mum should have brought it into the gardens as they are an endangered species.

I was going to play in a cricket match (I haven't played cricket in RL for about 15yrs). But I was late. My watch was running 20 minutes later than everyone else's. My team were pissed off with me. I don't know how I didn't become lucid here as I must have been looking at my watch repeatedly!

      Dreamsigns:
      1. Inner awareness - the argument in the supermarket. In RL I will do anything to avoid confrontation. Also the anger I felt was so strong. In dreams I have much stronger emotions than in RL. I have started RCing whenever I feel a strong emotion.

      2. Context - being with S. We had an unstable, tempestuous relationship for 4 years. She was the only girl I've ever loved. We haven't been in touch since we split 5 years ago but she still appears in my dreams.

      Bike Riding Dream

After a night of no recall on Wednesday night I remembered a lot last night.

Went to bed 21.55. Woke up 04.20 and recalled the following:

I was at my Aunt K's. I was trying to make coffee with a cafetiere, but I didn't know how to use it and it wasn't working. A. was there too. There was a strange atmosphere between us all. I went out for a bike ride.

I was riding through an unknown park on a steep hill with paths crossing at right angles to each other. I was having fun, it was exhilarating. I was going really fast downhill. Then it started raining, but not like usual English rain, more like tropical monsoon rain. It got heavier and heavier but I was enjoying it, the feeling of warm water running down my face and water soaking through my clothes to my skin. Eventually I decided I'd better head back as I was completely soaked. I like this dream

There was another dream later but I only remember this fragment: I was interviewing two members of a rock band, they weren't like superstars or anything, more like my friends.

Later on I was in what I can only describe as an amusement park, or maybe like a huge skatepark but for people to just walk around and chill out in, with little alcoves around the place. I was with a group of friends, none of whom I recognize from WL.
Then I went off and sat down at a table on my own. After a while a girl from the group I was with before came and sat next to me and we started chatting. Then she says she really likes me and we should get together. But I don't really like her in that way so I start coming up with some b/s like "Its really not a good time for me at the moment....etc"
As I'm coming up with this spiel either she starts changing (in appearance) or my feelings towards her start changing and I'm thinking "maybe I do like her". But I think its too late for that!

      Dreamsigns:
Action- When I was riding the bike, there was no sense of fear at all. If i was going that fast downhill in wet weather in WL I would have been pretty scared.

Context - the skate/amusement park place was definitely strange, it should have set alarm bells ringing!

i had this one LD where i was riding my bike from my backyard to the street and i couldn't really control it enough to avoid my parked car, so i rode right through it!

      Giant Tree

Riding through cars, that sounds cool. How about cycling fast the wrong way down a motorway! I want to do that

Anyway here's my dream from last night. Its one long one which is unusual for me, usually I remember a few fragments.

went to bed 22.45, woke up 06.30 (also woke up 04.30 l but couldn't remember anything, so this must have been during the last REM period of the night)

I was at college, but the layout was completely changed. It was an event like the "Celebration of Trees" we had a few weeks ago (in WL). I was there with the guys from work. There are loads of stalls selling equipment and stuff. We're walking around browsing. I bought this tool like a bicycle pump but it was supposed to do something like sharpen the chain on a chainsaw. My manager G. was saying "Its essential that you have one of these". So I bought it eventhough it was £110. S.E bought one aswell. Afterwards I thought that I should have waited and checked if I could get it cheaper on eBay.

Later we came across this huuuge tree. It had white, papery bark like a silver birch. But the trunk was around 10m in diameter. There was one long trunk going up about 300m! And a little green crown which looked as though it was sitting in the clouds. G. was saying I should climb it. But I chickened out, I said "Theres no way I'm climbing that". Then someone else started climbing it. They got to the top and jumped off, glided gracefully down and landed softly on the grass. They had a big cushion on their bum which they landed on. As soon as I saw him do it I thought "Thats cool, I'm going to do it." But for some reason it was too late, I couldn't do it anymore. Damn! (Now I'm awake I wish I'd done it even more as I'm pretty sure that gliding down would have made me lucid).

After that I went off around the festival by myself looking at the stalls etc. I had a brief conversation with a guy in one clothes shop.

Later it was time for us to head back, but the others had already left with the truck, they were supposed to be giving us a lift back. I was left there with C. and S.E. We'd have to get the bus back, and its a long ride. C. suggested we just stay at college and go to a lesson. But I wanted to go home so I got on the bus alone. The bus was a double decker unlike in WL and the route it took was completely different.

      Dreamsigns
There was quite a few in there but the most obvious are:
Object - that tree was just amazing. Redwoods seem otherwordly, but this was something else.
Action - seeing the guy climbing and jumping off the tree - impossible in WL.
Context - apearance of S.E again eventhough he now lives abroad. That reminds me I have to email him!

      Question Lucidity?

I didn't recall anything last night, but I've just awoken from a rather strange afternoon nap.

Went to bed 13.30 woke up 14.15

I woke up in my bed and could hear someone walking around the house. This imediately set me on edge as there shouldn't have been anyone in. My heart rate jumped. I thought "Ah I must be dreaming, there's nobody really there, relax." I tried to RC but I couldn't move my hands. Actually I could move them but only really slowly. But I didn't manage to RC and it didn't occur to me to try a non-physical check like trying to remember what I had been doing leading up to that point.

I can't remember well what happened next but I had the feeling of waking up and going about my business, but I now know that definitely did not happen.

Sometime later I was walking down a path next to a building which looked exactly like the buildings at my old university campus. I could see the porter's hut at the end of the path, the porter was sitting there, he had a grey beard. I thought "I never actually woke up before did I? I'm dreaming! I tried to RC but again I could only move my hands really slowly and it took such an effort to move them. I managed to push the finger of one hand into the palm of the other, it wouldn't go through but my hands felt strange, like they were made out of plasticine. For some reason I couldn't look at my hands or I just forgot to. But I decided I was dreaming. Then I thought "I'm not dreaming, this is real!" But then I saw that building again and knew I was dreaming. I was shocked and confused. The dream started to fade and I became slightly aware of the feeling of my body lying in bed. I tried to calm my mind by focusing on my senses in the dream. I could feel this was working, but I only sustained it for a second or two. That dream ended, but I don't think I completely woke up, I'm not really sure what happened but the next thing I recall is:

I'm walking along the corridor in the flat when I hear the mouse of the computer in the spare room clicking. But the spare room is located where the bathroom normally is. Again I'm scared: there shouldn't be anyone in. My heart beat quickens. I head towards the clicking to see who it is. On the way I realize its not real and I'm dreaming. But like before as soon as I come to this realisation, all my movements are slowed right down as though I'm submerged in honey. Also I can't see anything. I didn't RC. I move slowly towards the clicking, navigating by my hearing and familiarity with the flat. I enter the room and spread my arms out to grab whoever/whatever is sitting at the computer saying "Gotcha!".

The weird thing is that although I couldn't see, and I know I definitely never laid eyes on the mysterious lurker, I distinctly remember noticing that the computer was a Dell desktop, unlike the laptop which is normally in there. I remember the mouse, keyboard and monitor were black.

Anyway as I grabbed this intruder he turned to thin air and I woke up. I then proceeded to carry out the most thorough RC investigation ever and eventually decided that this time I was really awake. I then jotted down the events in my DJ, they seemed pretty vivid when I wrote them. But as I'm typing this an hour later they seem very distant.

This nap left me very confused. There was definitely an element of fear throughout it but not nearly as bad as my previous SP episode. Also there was no "evil spirit" hanging around afterwards. The fact that the sun is beaming in through my windows has probably dispelled that.

I'm not really sure what happened: was it SP? My first lucid dream? Both? I'm pleased with this progress as its the first time I've ever even tried to RC in a dream. But I'm still bewildered

      WOOOO!

i'd say you had a LD!

the slow movement of your hands was kind of random - you could have done the hands-free breathing check... however, you realized you were dreaming and it's more important to reinforce the feeling of "this is a dream - i'm lucid" rather than second-guessing yourself.

great job! this is definitely progress.

      Nap Dream

No dreams last night but I had a little sleep this afternoon and recall a dream from that:

Went to sleep 13.30, woke up 14.55

I was in a big house, unfamiliar in WL, but I felt at home there in the dream. I lived there with my sister J., her partner P. and my mum. I had gone for my afternoon nap as I had done in WL. I hadn't gone to sleep in my own room, I was in another bedroom through which J. and P. had to pass through to get to their own room.

While I was sleeping P. came home form work and walked through the room waking me up. He said "Hi. Sorry I didn't realize you were in here". I groggily mumbled something back. I returned to a drowsy state, not fully asleep but feeling lazy and lacking the energy to get out of bed (the exact same state I was to awake to later in WL.)

Eventually I got up and went into my own bedroom. I wondered why I hadn't just gone to sleep in my own bed, then I wouldn't have been woken up. Then I noticed that my own bed was two single beds stuck together to make a double. If I had gone to sleep in this bed I would have kept falling down the crack in the middle, this must have been why I slept in the other bed.

I looked out of my bedroom window. We had a long, sweeping gravel driveway leading up to the house. There were some big cedars lining the drive, beyond them was a country park type landscape.

I saw my sister pull up the drive in a red ford fiesta (like she used to have in WL). P. shouted "Is that J? I heard someone driving up fast." I shouted back "Yes its her".

Cleaning, board games and helicopter taxis

      25.5.09

Went to bed 21.50 woke up 05.30

I was in a van with M. from IGD (a gardening company I used to work for). We were driving round a large building complex. We weren't doing gardening like we used to but cleaning. There was one large hall with a roof of terracotta tiles, it had one wall missing and it was on the ground floor so you could just walk in from the outside. We were mopping the floors in this room. There were some other people form IGD there too. M. was stressed because we had loads of work to do. I wasn't helping matters because I wasn't working very hard. I wanted to help M. but the mopping was getting so boring I couldn't motivate myself to do it any faster.

Later I was in my four year old niece T.'s room, but it was nothing like her room in WL. There were toys and games scattered all over the floor. I thought that her mum would be cross about the mess. I was lying on the floor playing a board game with her. There was a TV in the background playing a news type programme. I began to feel sleepy and eventually fell asleep. When I wake up T. has also fallen asleep and is lying just to my left in exactly the same position that I was sleeping in, as though she had copied me.

This last part of the dream was in third person view, my body was not there. I have never had a dream like this before. C. (who I also used to work with at IGD) is a taxi driver going round collecting kids from schools, but he takes them in a helicopter not a car. He has loads of sheets of paper with details of all the kids he is supposed to pick up. He is talking to the receptionist in this school flicking through his sheets of paper, but he is confused and he can't work out which kid he is supposed to be picking up from this school.

      Dreamsigns:

Context - character place - appearance of people from IGD who I no longer have any contact with.
Form - setting form - weird design of building we were mopping in
      - T.s bedroom is different than in WL

      I'm on crimewatch!

      26.5.09

Went to bed 21.40, woke up 03.17

I was in the flat. My grandad (who died 5 years ago) was there too. I go to my room and start DJing playing some music really loud. My grandad is trying to get my attention, he has something to say to me, but I pretend I can't hear him. Later he shows me some things that were in our rubbish bin, some old shoes and computer parts. We were going to throw them away but he said "Thats wasteful, somebody could put them to good use. We should put them outside with a sign letting people know that they can take them if they want."
I said " We don't need to make a sign, if we just put them outside someone will take them"

My grandad and I go for a drive in a car. Its night time. At some point my grandad becomes my dad. He's obviously drunk. He starts driving really fast and recklessly, driving onto the pavement like we're in a car chase in a film. I'm scared, I tell him to slow down but he doesn't.

Later I'm in Tottenham Court Road underground station. Its rush hour and its packed. I'm sitting at a bench on a platform next to a pretty girl with short dark hair, she wore a red tartan blouse. We're chatting. The platform keeps filling and emptying as trains come and go, but we just sit talking. Then we kiss. We leave the station. There are some fence railings with sleeping bags hung up on them. I'm taking the sleeping bags down and putting them on the ground for homeless people to use. The girl says she has to go. She's nice, I don't want to say goodbye.

I go back down into the station. I put my credit card into one of the ticket machines, but it won't work. I go to one of the attendants: "This won't let me through, I'm sure there's money on it." He looks at it, then puts it in his little scanner.
"Will you come with me please sir?"
      "Why, what going on?"
"I need to take this card for ID purposes"
I'm confused but follow the attendant off into a little side office.
At this point the dream goes into third person mode. "Crimewatch" the tv program plays in front of me (I detest those crime programs). They have used my credit card to link me to a transaction made a few weeks ago. They play CCTV of me taking money out of a cashpoint. They say "This youth is wanted on charges of drink driving, anti social behaviour.....(a list of of other offences)".
There is then CCTV recordings of me being completely drunk and generally acting like a yob. Then I'm shown driving a car with a bunch of rowdy people in the back. I can't believe what I'm seeing, I don't remeber doing these things. I feel ashamed, guilty.
The final shot of the program is of the offender being arrested, but it isn't me!. They show another guy with handcuffs being put on him. A message is displayed in the screen "Robert Harrigan (not my name), is prosecuted for drink driving, anti social behaviour......"
I wake up relieved that it was just a dream.

      Woke up 05.15

In a later dream I was in a bike race round a big park. Then it changes and I'm rolerskating not biking. I'm going over mud but still the skates work.
The race ends at a swimming pool combined with a skate park.
You can buy "One hit scuba tanks" to go underwater with, but they're expensive so I don't.
I leave the pool and go into the park, I've forgotten to change into my clothes, I'm only in swinmming trunks. I go back into to the pool to change.

      Dreamsigns
Inner awareness - The feeling of guilt while watching the CCTV videos.
Action - Skates working over mud
Context - Seeing my grandad again

      Fragment

I didn't recall much last night. This could have been because I got less than 6 hours sleep, so not much REM. Here's the bit I did remember:

      27.5.09
Went to bed 23.40, Woke up 05.10

I'm at work. But I'm in the role of manager instead of the normal postion as least expereinced person in the company. We're on a work site, members of the public keep coming up to me and asking: "Why isn't my tree being pruned? Why isn't my tree being pruned?"

I look at a tree which is about to collapse on a house. I tell the owner it has to be felled.

Went to bed 21.20, Woke up 04.20

I was travelling around a foreign country, I don't know where exactly but it I think it was in Europe. The whole dream seemed to be spread over a couple of weeks. At the beginning I was travelling with my friend P. We're on a coach journey. There is a TV on the coach but its not working. I try to get it to work, I'm trying to tune the channels in but can't find anything.

We stop at a sandwich shop there are instructional posters on the wall, showing you how to have lesbian sex.

Later I'm travelling with a girl who I have met whilst travelling. P. is gone. We're going for a walk through a city. There is this one street on a really steep hill. The pavement is lined with low, prostrate apple trees. Their branches are growing all along the pavement. The growth was so thick we had to wind our way through them to make progress up the hill. A woman was pruning the trees. I said to the girl "I'd love to live on this street."

Later we are driving around in a car. I'm gazing out the window. There are these huge strange looking trees. They have huge pruning wounds in them where some major branches had been removed. I thought "I'm glad it wasn't me who had to prune those trees, looks as though it was a nightmare job."

Later the girl is about to leave. Its time for her to go back to whatever country she came from. Some of her friends come to say goodbye too. There is one bloke who is really annoying.

      Woke up 05.00

I was in a bike shop. There was a single speed racer bike I was admiring.

Later I was at work. There was a dilapidated, rusty old three wheeler car ( a bit like the yellow van from "Only Fools and Horses", but blue). This car was blocking our exit from the garden. We had to get it moved but it loked like it had been there for years.

      Another work dream...

I've just realised how many of much of my dream time is spent at work, sometimes not at my real job but in a work related sitution. That is so boring

So here's another work dream from last night.

      29.5.09

Went to bed 22.30, woke up about 04.30

I was at work. We were felling a conifer. One man who lives in the house next to the tree has a chainsaw and wants to help us. The fell goes wrong, the tree falls onto a fence and next door's shed, but we manage to pull the tree off without damaging anything.

Later my family and some relatives are there too. They are in the house next to the tree sitting down having a meal. I'm carrying D. (my 6 month old niece) around while trying to work. Its a bit difficult, but I like holding her. I don't seem to be concerned about her safety though!

      T. (my other 4 year old niece) is following me around too. She's asking questions about what we are doing. The sun is getting very strong and I'm worried D. might get sunburn, so I take her back inside and give her to her Mum.

      Woke up about 05.30

I was in my local library looking for a book, but I can't find it.

Then I'm back at my old secondary school, but as usual the layout is completely different. I go into this small office with a woman sitting behind a desk, its a kind of place you go for advice. Its the second time I've been there today and she looks at me strangely. I ask
      "When are the swimming lessons?"
"One is on Wednesday afternoon, the other at 5am on friday morning. I don't know why the teacher does it so early. He gets paid too much- £1,500 per day."
I thought she said £1,500 per minute and I'm a bit surprised.

I go to the swimming pool and watch the swimmers from a balcony above the pool. Then I go to the library, on the way I pass a vending machine and buy a sesame seed bar. I think about buying two but I don't. Then I see two blokes I know, we say hello. One says "Remember to tell us when your next party is". I think this is a bit strange as I haven't had a party recently and probably won't be having one anytime soon.

I get to the library, find a desk and start work. Someone stands up and anounces loudly "All of you would learn much better English if you followed my technique!"

Setting time - being back at secondary school again

      Travelling in NZ

      31.5.09

Last night I woke up at some point during the night, I'm not sure what time it was. I did an RC, looked at my hands, the forefinger of my right hand was chopped off at the first knuckle, but the skin was smoothed over like it had happened years ago. I was shocked, thinking "My God, what happened to my finger!". I looked away in disbelief, when I looked back my hand was back to normal. I breathed a sigh of relief and went back to sleep. How did I miss this? Here's the rest of the night's dreams:

      Went to bed 01.00

Woke up 06.00 : No recall

      Woke up 08.30:

I was in New Zealand travelling around with two other guys. But the landscape was completely unlike New Zealand, it was more like a desert.
The three of us had found some fruit picking work, so we decided to stop at this place for a while. We were sharing a dorm together.

We worked Monday to Friday. I got up on Saturday morning to go to work, but realised there was no work on Saturdays.

One of the two blokes dissapeared. All of his stuff was still in the dorm but we never saw him again.

Somehow I won a prize, it was a day at a go-karting track. But I had to go back to England to get this prize. So I go back to England. Back to my primary school. They now have a go-karting track in the playground, there were veggie patches around the outside of the track. But now I wasn't there to do go-karting, I had a chainsaw with me.

I found the school caretaker. We said hello and exchanged small talk. Then he said "Don't worry the job has been done already." While he was talking to me he was digging around in one of the vegetable beds by the side of the track. I said "It must be a busy time for you at the moment" as they seemed to be rennovating the school.

Some kids starting racing the go-karts. There were different types of kart. One was small and nippy, like the turtle in the old Super Mario Kart. Another was big and slow to start off but with a high max speed like Bowser, this one was black in colour.

I left the school. I realised I was wearing a really bright fluorescent orange hi-vizibility jacket. I was still carrying the chainsaw, there was a scabbard over the bar.

I started walking home through the town. I saw a woman with a really low-cut top, I could see her tits. As I continued walking I realised I had come back from New Zealand just for this and I didn't have any money for a ticket back. I was gutted.

      Fragment:
From third person viewpoint. A woman goes into her boss's office. The boss is also a woman. At first the boss is angry, she starts shouting. Eventually she calms down.

A couple of other people come into the office, they're all sitting at a square table, chatting. The first woman starts rolling up, she tries to make it look like a cigarette, but I can see her put a few crumbs of weed in there. The boss notices too and starts getting angry again.

      Magical Powers

I had a strange dream last night. I mean strange in the sense that it was different than my usual dreams. Also I woke up remembering this dream less than 2 hours after going to sleep, usually I don't wake up until 5-6 hours in.

      31.5.09

Went to sleep 21.30, Woke up 23.15

This dream was set in medieval times. Everyone believed in magic and the supernatural, they didn't even doubt it at all, it was taken for granted.

I lived on my own out in the woods, in a sort of tent but with a corrugated iron roof propped up by wooden beams. I put a spell on my shelter to protect it while I was away.

Later I was with my Mum and and an older brother (I don't have any brothers in WL). We were all visiting this wise, benevolvent middle aged woman. We all knew her to be a witch, she was well respected in the community. We were in her living room, which was like any normal 21st century living room.

The witch said that she had been keeping an eye on my brother and that he had magical powers. She said that now was the time for a ceremony to honour this. She started a witch-like ceremony process, and said:

"These powers are already latent within you (speaking to my brother), now I am calling them to the fore.
Is there any reason why I cannot call these powers forth?"

For some reason the spell that I had put on my shelter earlier came to mind. Almost immediately that thought was silenced. The witch went on with the ceremony.

It was never said explicitly but I knew that these powers were healing powers. My brother would become a doctor for the community, using herbs to keep people healthy.

My mum and I were so proud of my brother. Mum came to me and gave me a big hug. I closed my eyes and it felt as though white light was enveloping us. I was filled with an overwhelming sense of well-being. My mum said " I love you" and I said "I love you too Mum". But both of us said these words completely consciously, thinking about what the words meant. They weren't just said casually.

      A later fragment:

      S. (my ex) and her friend E. were sharing a flat together. In their kitchen was a big table with a lot of toasted sandwich makers on it. I made myself a toasted sandwich.

      Dreamsigns:
Context - being in medieval times
Context - Character - I have an older brother
Inner awareness - emotion - the strong sense of wellbeing. This makes a nice change from the usual guilt! But it was still an emotion much stronger than usually felt in WL.
      Context - Character - being with S.

      Bizarre Hotel

      1.6.09

Went to bed 21.45, Woke up 05.16

I was in a hotel w. B. (B. is a girl I don't actually know in WL, but I see her every week on the minibus I get to college, I only know her name through overheard conversations), someone else was there too. There is a sunken indoor courtyard or atrium in the centre of this hotel. There are doors to other rooms leading off this atrium.

There is a lump of shit stuck on the wall of the courtyard. We're trying to get it down before anyone sees it. I jump down into the atrium. I try to get the shit down but its out of reach. The other two jump down, they find a ladder and get the shit.

Someone comes and we all hide. I have to make a quick descision between diving underneath some bags of rubbish or hiding in a broom cupboard. I go for the broom cupboard, theres loads of junk in it, and a computer which keeps beeping. I wait there for a long time. I can hear people outside coming and going.

      N. (who I used to work with at the NHS) was there. We didn't want her to find us. Eventually the other two come and let me out of the cupboard.

Later I'm sharing one of the hotel rooms with B. She brings back one of the blokes (I also recognize him from the college minibus). I say "I'll sleep in the hallway then."
She replies "You don't have to do that"
But I didn't particularly want to be in the same room as them so I left.

Later: Something about a big pub (I think it was in Australia) There were 100's of different types of beer and whisky. I'm telling the bloke from the college minibus about this place. I think I was actually there earlier in the dream aswell.

      Dreamsigns:
Setting Form - unusual layout of the hotel
Inner awareness - the feeling that we were reponsible for the shit, eventhough it was nothing to do with us. Also hiding when we had nothing to hide from.
Character place - appearance of N. who I no longer see

Went to bed 21.55, woke up 05.20

I was in a place with lots of snow, it might have been Canada. There were some trees cut up into logs. I with a group of people and we were trying to stack the logs back onto tree stumps. There was lubricant covering the logs, they were slippery. An old guy was teaching us the way to do this. At one point I was holding a chainsaw.

The old man had a dog like a husky. I looked after it for a while.

We were staying in a trailer park. I was outside playing with the dog. My mum came out to, I said to her "I want a dog like this, he's very clever."

There was a woman there, she was blonde. She was older than me by maybe 20 years or so. She wasn't particularly attractive but for some reason I told her that I fancied her. She said she was flattered but that she had a husband.

It was time for us to leave this place. The older woman gave me a lift in her SUV to the cabin where I was meeting my Mum and some others. On the way we passed a bike parking place. The bikes were parked upside down. The handlebars and saddles were covered in tarpaulins but the rest of the bikes were exposed. I though that they would rust quickly.

At the cabin we're all saying goodbye. As we're hugging goodbye, the older woman catches my eye. She obviously thinks I was going to try to kiss her so she pecks me on the cheek and backs off.

Went to bed 22.00, woke up 04.00

I was shifting logs onto a van with some other people. The indian woman we are working for keeps saying that the jobs not getting done quick enough.

Then we've stopped work, waiting for something before we can continue. I see my Grandad. He points out some logs that we've forgotten. I go to pick one of them up, they're half rotten. As I'm carrying it a large beetle crawls off the log and up my arm. I want to brush it away, but my arms are holding the log. It flies onto my face. More insects start crawling up my arms from the log. I wake up. (04.00)

I start doing a WILD exercise counting backward from 100 saying "100, I'm dreaming, 99 I'm dreaming...etc." Before long I'm crawling along sandy ground counting backwards as I go. I come up against a fence and cannot continue. I think to myself "I should have thought of this before I started crawling, I should have started off in a different line so I didn't hit the fence". Then it dawned on me that I was dreaming and I woke up.

I RC and continue with the exercise. Then I wake up in an unfamilar bed in an unfamiliar room. I saw my arm floating in front of me disconnected from my body. I realized I was dreaming. I went to pass the hand of my connected arm through the floating arm. It passed through and then I woke up, back into the unfamiliar room, but I was non-lucid.

Someone was playing really loud techno music in one of the neighbouring flats. I got up. I had a conversation with an indian woman outside who was sweeping a path, but not doing it very well, just pushing the dirt around.

Later I was meeting M. (an old colleague, last appeared in a dream 25.5.09).
I'm listening to music in my headphones. Its really early in the morning and still dark. I wait for him for about 10 mins, I start to walk away, but then I see him coming.

We go into the house and start working on some pot plants that are full of weeds.

Later I'm at a petrol sattion filling up a car. I put £1 worth of petrol in. I pay £10 directly into the machine. £1's worth of petrol is too small to register so it gives me the full £10 back.
I go into the shop, I'm looking for a birthday present for my mum. they only have fake plants in there. I realize this is a really lame present. I'll have to look somewhere else

      Exam dream

I had this dream on Monday night. The next day I had a big exam in WL.

      8.6.09

Went to bed 21.40, woke up 06.00

I was taking an exam. It was English grammar. The paper didn't make any sense and some of the text was blurred. In one question you had to fill in some missing words in a passage, I couldn't work it out. I looked around and everyone else seemed to be doing ok. I let out a big groan of despair!

The examiner was my old English teacher Mrs B. She came up to me and asked "Whats wrong?"
      "I don't understand this paper" I said.
She tried to explain it to me but it still didn't make any sense. I knew she had written the paper and I didn't want to hurt her feelings by saying it was a load of rubbish.
