on making my brain 'realise' a dreamsign.

Okay, so here's the deal: It's now 5.41am in the morning, and i've just had a dream, with an absolutely blinding dreamsign that i should not have missed, but did.
my question is this: Basically, i can recognise my dreamsigns while awake. I recognise them very briefly when i'm dreaming, but my dreaming brain seems to like bypassing them!
How do i get my dreaming brain to basically PAY ATTENTION to what it's seeing? Is this just a question of time?
I've been doing this for a few days now, getting into a dream, seeing a sign, knowing it's wierd, and then going on with the dream as normal.
This has happened in the past, and it led to a very vivid and very controlled lucid dream, albeit a short one.
      So, any tips anyone?

First off i know exactly where u r coming from! EXACTLY!

My dreams r so weird & when i don't LD i often think how stupid it is, because i should be able 2 realize how odd they r. I have the same dream signs appearing in every dream, & sometimes i still can't get it!

The only reasonable explanation for this is we have short attention spans in our dreams & when we begin 2 decifier something as being weird we simply move on 2 the next thing w/curiosity!

The only way i seem 2 improve is 2 keep practicing reality checks throughout the day so my brain does it automattically @ nite. it takes a while, but it does eventually happen.

Maybe some others will have ideas for u 2...

Every time before you go to bed, explain to yourself, why your dreamsign is a dreamsign, how it is different from the real world and why seeing a dreamsign means you are in a dream.

for example: I dont have a gun in real life, none of my relatives/friends/family does. Guns dont just lay on the streets unattended. So if I'll have/fire a gun it is most likely a dream and at least deserves a reality check.

This technique is quite effective and doesnt take much time

I'm having the same problem as you. Just this morning I was dreaming that I was playing volleyball in my elementary school during PE against the old jock/bullies I used to despise. I kept getting heckled and everyone in PE was laughing. So I ran outside to look over a huge cliff at a nice lagoon. I wanted to jump in but I was nervous. Tell me that isn't a huge sign. I did like 30 reality checks yesterday too! Oh well, still trying to stay positive!

Well, i went lucid the other night in the midst of a nightmare...couldn't do much, except concentrate on waking myself up!
you have no idea how hard that is to do, when your brain is desperate to stay in the dream...
The sea in Florida is not brown...
