Hehe I can see where weed can interfere with dream recall. I used to use to have the same problem, although I have been off of it for several years now. But when I was stoned I tended to be able to "daydream" a lot clearer. I was more creative at that time and more imaginative. I'm not saying it's better that way though. I believe I remember my nightly dreams more now than I did before. And I have more dreams that have meanings and tend have more precognitive dreams now. There is an huge difference there when dreaming while stoned and dreaming while not. I hope you continue to recall your dreams and notice more dream signs now.

Here, here - I've been off weed for about 7 months now and my dream recall is better than before but my waking creativity has suffered.

      CONGRATULATIONS jay dawg

for the first few days after you stop smoking regularly you get something called "REM backlash" which is basically your dreaming goes through the roof in reaction to the sudden drop in thc.

Anyway I smoked most days all summer and I found that when I didn't I dreamed better. I get fried if I smoke too much (which is often, because it also hits me VERY SLOWLY, often resulting in me getting too high for the situation or fried) and this means I need more sleep in order to dream.

I haven't smoked in three weeks, mainly because my town went dry (canadian drug ring got busted ), but now I don't even care because my dreams are better.

The answer is MODERATION. Remember your first days smoking grass? Last winter was the best time ever, because I'd smoke once a week or every other week, and just get ridiculous whenever I was high. I'm going to go back to that, I think. The only problem is I feel creatively bankrupt these days during my waking life. I can't doodle away my class time anymore.

Dreams are a better way to get high, I think, I just need to get better at it. It's a free trip, after all, and I do it a few times a night!

Heh. Me and my self-destructive ways...

...so since I started Really trying to pick up my LD'ing, I've tried to limit my smoking till the weekends (which only works Some of the time, but thats beside the point >.>) But even when I don't smoke on the weekdays, my free time is so limited that its damn near Impossible for me to drag myself into bed before 11:30 - 12, only to wake up at 6 for work. Doesn't give me much time to dream, and I'm lucky if I remember a dream or two. But weekends is party time and I'm usually too fried and/or piss-drunk to even focus on dreaming. The dreams come, of course, but recall is shot to hell. Lol. Oh well. I'll straighten myself out one of these days.

If only I had a job and not school! I could smoke late into the night and wake up early without being tired, then dream when I have enough time to sleep and catch the rem backlash too...

i quit for a month when i originally posted this. i did it to improve my recall. then my recall got worse so i started again and my recall stayed about the same. it kind of sucks now tho. my mom woke me up at the end of a dream the other day and i had the most amazing recall imaginable. coicidentally i have been off it for a few days now again. weed is good for enlightenment purposes, among other things! i hope to gain some recall this way, but it may be easier to have alarms wake me up at various points in the night.

just take short breaks. The REM backlash only lasts for a couple days, so once your recall goes down, start smoking again. I don't recall any less when I smoke every day compared to when I don't smoke at all, it's only during that period right after quitting that you get it. So, take advantage of it!

      REM backlash... that makes sense.

One time, after quitting for a few days, I had a very vivid dream that I was... erm... smoking weed. Has anyone else experienced this? The feeling, the high, the body buzz... everything felt so real! Not to mention that I even woke up a little lazy and tired, even though I had plenty of sleep. It was as if I had smoked the night before which wasn't the case.

      Good.

Now for a real buzz you should try coffee.

Being sober.. Wow, what a high.

No, it is good that you have decided to clean up. And the three days is good. Long ago in a time far away I was a cigerette smoker, and whenever I would quit (it took me 14 tries in all) it really would not last at all unless I could get through the first 3 days. After 3 days I could manage not to smoke for months at a time. Oh... as an aside... I found that if I would smoke in my dreams, then I would end up smoking again. I was finally able to quit for ever when I was able to toss off the cigerettes in my dreams -- cigerettes would appear in my fingers and as soon as I would toss one aside, another would have grown in its place. But I kept tossing them away and the pack they came in. After that I found I had that nasty habit beat... knock on wood.

But, Jay, congratulations on your first step toward dignity, meaning and intelligence. We have only to regret having one less monkey on Monkey Island.

uhhh yeah? well its not like some major thing to not smoke weed for 3 days. see, marijuana is 100% non addictive. you can smoke it all day for years and stop like its nothing. first steps towards dignity, meaning and intelligence? are you serious? my intelligence, enlightenment, and higher state of consciousness can only be attributed to marijuana. please leo, keep your ignorant comments to yourself! you should try smoking it all day for a while and see how your views, on marijuana and existance, change, for the better.

P.S. I HATE the way coffee makes me feel. a few years ago i made a couple THICK cups and i could feel my heart from the inside out. it was a freaky sensation and i hated it! now, coffee is an addictive drug you should stray from. the only heart related sensations ive felt from weed are, being so incredibly high that i couldnt tell if i still had a pulse, OR beating so fast youd think it was going to stop, but i hear this is a good workout for the heart. but being that high can make you THINK you are going to die, literally, but you wont.

Jay, I do mostly agree with you, and I do love the effects that marijuana has on creativity and views on life and spirituality. However, marijuana is indeed mildly addictive. Not physically addictive like cigarrettes or even coffee. The addiction to marijuana, though mild, is only psychological. It comes simply from missing being in the "state" that marijuana gets you... I think you may know what I'm talking about. If the person decides to quit smoking for a good and solid reason, then its very easy to stop it, just as you say it.

As for Leo... just be careful to not get addicted to caffeine.

Re caffeine,...it's funny, i only drink it at work...and i wouldn't say i was addicted to it...although, on a shift (seven and a quarter hours) i usually average five cups...maybe I'm a closet addict...
And cigarettes...i smoked. for a bit. Not long. And then i stopped. The other night, i dreamed i was smoking a cigarette, and it was wonderful! I immediately wanted to start up again...but didn't!
      Hooray for me!

my mom is addicted to coffee. She gets headaches and gets all cranky when she doesn't have any.

The thing with weed is I miss the act of smoking. The smoking circle is a place of intense social exchange which is hard to mimic in a sober hangout.

The effects of weed withdrawal for me are just general boredom, add, and lethargy for 3 days, and then feeling completely normal from then on.
