Hey guys, I have a lot of trouble remembering my dreams on school nights, and it is very frustrating. Do any of you have tips for remember your dreams better during the school week?

      Tips for remembering dreams

      StarDate 11-27-2005

      Hi cool_D_23!

It's absolutely key to keep a dream journal and record as much of your dream as you can remember upon awakening. The journal can just be a plain notebook, or even a Word document if you have a laptop or PC close by. If you want to really get fancy, there are several dream journal packages that can be purchased via the internet. Just do a search and you'll get a bunch of hits. There's one called (I think) Interactive Dreaming, and you get a bunch of bells 'n whistles, i.e., color combinations to use, custom dictionaries, etc. Before doing any writing, however, lay still upon awakening and try to backtrack your dream and recall as much as you can. You could ask yourself, "What was I just dreaming?" - and you'll be pleasantly surprised as the days unfold that you'll be able to recall more and more details. What is happening is that you're expanding the part of your mind that has to do with memory. Best of luck!

thanks for the help Raj, but that isn't really my problem. I want tips to where I can know that I had a dream, because I wake up, and I dont have any time to think about what I dream unless I automatically remembered the dream, Is there anyone here in high school who shares my problem?

A few things worked for me. Try spreading your sleep out into a 2-hour nap and a 6-hour sleep. Or, try to get to bed earlier. Since you wake up at the same time every day for school, set your alarm to wake you up an hour early, then attempt a WBTB or WILD. Even if you don't lucid dream, I usually at least remember the dream segment from the last hour of sleep.

maybe I should try and get more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep on schoolnights then, that might help. I did remember parts of a small dream this morning, I set my alarm 1:30 before I woke up, I dont know if it helped any though.

I noticed that while I was on Thanksgiving break, I could remember a dream every night. Now that I am back in school, and only get to sleep from 12:00 to 5:30, I cant remember a thing. Im pretty sure that the amount of sleep you get drastically affects dream recall.

yeah, I have only remembered two dreams this week, more sleep definitely affects dream recall, I guess the only remedy is more sleep.

the equations simple no sleep= no recall

you have to get at least 8 hrs of sleep a night for good recall and almost any chance of having a lucid dream ( i had to drastically change my sleep schedual to get good recall)

if your serious about lucid dreaming then you should change your sleep schedual (trust me its worth it)

      Again billy goodjob!

Followup: I had the same problem. GOTO BED EARLIER. Review the sleep schedule: http://www.dreamviews.com/sleepstages.php

Therefore, The more sleep, the more REM sleep.

Seeing as most of the dreaming takes place in REM sleep

The more REM sleep, the more dreams.

The more dreams, the more the probability of remembering your dreams increases.

Why sleep when you can dream?

well, that is not good for me, because right now, the most sleep I can get is probably about 6 1/2 hours. On the weekends I get plenty of sleep though, but with all my homework mixed in with basketball practice makes it tough for a full 8 hours on school days.

But I am serious about this and I will try and change my sleep schedules

I tried doing that but it is hard.
I get home around 5 or 6 and wake up at 6:30.
So i'd have to go to bed around 9-10 to get enough sleep.
that leavwes around 4 hours to do homework, eat dinner, and play.
Kinda hard for me because i have a boredom problem or something.
