      Annoying Dreamsign

I have one dreamsign which stands out above all as an indicator that I'm in a dream: a dream that I am waking up, getting out of bed, showering, brushing my teeth, dressing, whatever it is I would normally do before heading out the door.

Then of course I wake up for real and have to do it all over again.

The obvious solution would be to always question whether I'm dreaming or not every morning when I wake up. But I'm never, ever, EVER coherent enough in the morning to make a useful habit of this, and I often lie in bed for a good half-hour, drifting in and out of sleep, before I can bring myself to get up to do more conclusive tests (lightswitches and so on).

This morning I apparently woke up for real, accidentally turned off my alarm instead of hitting the snooze button, fell asleep, and promptly dreamt that I woke up again and began writing in my dream journal while still in bed. Argh!

How can I change these dreams before I can even gain control of them? These seem to be the only recurring dreams I have. I read on this forum something about inducing a preferred dreamsign (eg, "I will see a lion in my dream, and then I will recognize that I am dreaming"); can anyone attest to this? Ideally, once I have better control of my dreams, I'd like to make these kinds of dreams go away entirely--they make mornings just that much more insufferable when I have to endure them twice! But I'm still very new to this and have no idea where to start. Thank you.

      Yep, that's a False Awakening.

you are lucky that it always happens in your house.

Make it a habit to include several RCs in your moning routine:

when you get up, check digital clock, at least 3 times.

when you go to the shower, flip few light switches on and off.

as you eat breakfast, perform few more RCs...

there's a good chance that you'll get some of these RCs working for you...

yeah, they r right, reality checks are useful no matter how pointless they seem when you are sure you're awake! here's some other useful RCs that wrok for me :

if some thing really bad hapens, think so much that you dont want it to be true, and try 'in your mind' not to wake up, but to realise it's a dream because its so horrible. Then look at your hands, try to draw on your skin with your finger, try to jump abnormally high, or just do anything to give yourself a clue that you are dreaming.

if your only recurring dream is something as real-life as waking up, u may wanna try getting involved in something to spice up your mind! like a computer game or a book - you may then dream about it! good luck xxx

good luck... i agree that you need to do more RC's in the morning.

i wanted to post my annoying dream sign that i had a couple of nights ago; there were two really big posters on the wall, with a two naked guys holding signs that said "Are you" "dreaming?" I didn't even notice...

I'm SOOO stupid, i need to do more RC's when i see other naked men!
I spilled spot remover on my dog. He's gone now.

AHAHAHA!! LOL! thats so hilarious! im like that too... i saw someones phone nmber in my dream and i didnt even think to check if it was obscurred!!! but 'are you dreaming' is a pretty good clue!!!!!! that just proves that the logically consious part of a persons brain slows down alot in their sleep - and the short-term memory too, because you probably told yourself before you went to bed to realise you are dreaming but didnt! oh well, good luck next time!
