I have one dreamsign which stands out above all as an indicator that I'm in a dream: a dream that I am waking up, getting out of bed, showering, brushing my teeth, dressing, whatever it is I would normally do before heading out the door.
Then of course I wake up for real and have to do it all over again.
The obvious solution would be to always question whether I'm dreaming or not every morning when I wake up. But I'm never, ever, EVER coherent enough in the morning to make a useful habit of this, and I often lie in bed for a good half-hour, drifting in and out of sleep, before I can bring myself to get up to do more conclusive tests (lightswitches and so on).
This morning I apparently woke up for real, accidentally turned off my alarm instead of hitting the snooze button, fell asleep, and promptly dreamt that I woke up again and began writing in my dream journal while still in bed. Argh!
How can I change these dreams before I can even gain control of them? These seem to be the only recurring dreams I have. I read on this forum something about inducing a preferred dreamsign (eg, "I will see a lion in my dream, and then I will recognize that I am dreaming"); can anyone attest to this? Ideally, once I have better control of my dreams, I'd like to make these kinds of dreams go away entirely--they make mornings just that much more insufferable when I have to endure them twice! But I'm still very new to this and have no idea where to start. Thank you.
