      Remembering dreams

      two questions:

I've always been so good at remembering dreams... and they've always came back to me days/months(even years) after they've happened. Unfortunately lately I've only been remembering the very end of dreams, and the stuff before is just "on the tip of my mind" but i can't seem to remember it... It's odd. It's only started like 4 days ago. Do you guys have tricks for remembering dreams, or old dream recovery.

Secondly, you know when you remember a dream months or years later... I mean, how do you know that you actually had that dream. When you remember it you experience two things (1) a short mental picture (or a long one? but this question is more for the short ones) (2) a feeling of ... nostalgia?.. im not sure if that's the right word, because it's not so much a longing of the past, but i pretty much just mean you get a feeling of "oh yeah THAT", even though you dont remember the whole memory... so. how do you know that you actually had that dream, if all you remember is a tiny little snapshot of it... couldnt your mind emulate that feeling and just randomly create some images?

Like.. i FEEL like I've experienced those memories before, and I think I can remember remembering them a few times before, but couldnt that just go for all those memories? It's like a dejavu sort of, but not quite the same.

      Cheers,
      Dylan

When you're trying to remember a recent dream, the best way is to write it down. Start with any details you can think of, and other things will probably start to fall into place around what you can remember. I've remembered large portions of dreams this way, when at first I could only remember a short scene. This might work for remembering older dreams as well, but I'm not sure because I've never tried it.

I've never really had an issue differentiating between dreams and images I've generated in my head. Partly, after the creation, they're all just memories of images, so I figure, what's the difference? Mostly, though, if I can't associate any other events or images with something, I probably just imagined it. The one that really gets me is when I can't tell the difference between vivid dreams and memories of waking life. I'll be talking to someone, and discover that something never actually happenned.
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

Oh exactly. I know what you mean exactly (sometimes not being able to differentiate between old realistic dream memories and old memories). What I was saying is actually kind of related to that, but different... It was more asking "how do you know that what you think you are REMEMBERING from a long time ago" is just a new thought of the past linked with an emulated sensation of nostalgia. You know... I mean your brain makes those feelings in the first place with old memories, I'm sure it could cause itself to have it.

i usually get 5 or 6 short images, and then i remember dreams that were simmilar and it just goes on for about a minute...... fun times

write your dreams down, remember a tidbit and you should be able to pull out all the images out of that one dream. if you keep a dream journal (DJ) then look through it to find things that might help you to remember... because, if you cant remember your dreams, there might be a simmilar dreamscape in them.

When you wake up, keep lying in the same position. An noisy alarm clock is a bad thing for this reason
Go over what you remember, expanding the dream sideways
Once you've got a good grasp on it, then get up and write it down

And while your lying there, try to make small cuewords that can connect a whole setting. This way you can make just a few cuewords and remember so much.
