      Kyhaar's Workbook

Hi. I'm Kyhaar. I've been out of the lucid dreaming loop for several years and want to get back in. A lot of skills I once had as a dreamer have degraded, so I figured I should start from the basics. I get really lazy at keeping a dream journal, but I am going to put in a big effort to write in it every morning.

Lesson 1: What is Lucid Dreaming?
Homework: Create a Dream Journal and post a dream in this workbook

      May 19, 2011

This dream has three "segments." The first part is very fragmented, and I don't recall very much of it. The middle and end are the most detailed. I suppose that's not surprising, considering the nature of dream recall.

Sleep. Many of my dreams take place in places I know, like school or my "old" house. This particular dream has both. All I can remember from the beginning is that I was sitting at my desk in my English or Sociology class, I'm not sure which (it is even more difficult to tell because they happen to take place in the same classroom right after one another, and I sit in the same desk for each one).

Then I'm... somewhere. A field or park, maybe? The colouring is bright and very strange. I know that I am either in or watching a Yu-gi-oh tournament with the animated characters. Sometime during this section, I reflect on how the television show was repetitive and how the same people always made it to the final rounds of the tournement, particularly Yugi and/or his friends. Some other things happen to me, but I cannot explain them in words because they are mere flashes. I have an impression of a war or conflict.

Flash. I am in the room of my early childhood (birth-grade five), at my old desk. The desk is metal with a dark chestnut wood top, and I run my hand over its smooth surface. For some reason, I am clutching a blanket in my hand and am shaking Yu-gi-oh cards out from it.

Without any reason, I am at the bus stop I get off at after school, which is a few houses away from my "old" house. There is a pokemon battle after school, and I am the trainer controlling the Kangaskhan, which is standing in the middle of the intersection. Opposite me, on the sidewalk, is a Sandshrew, although there is no trainer in sight. I have Kangaskhan use a move, but it isn't very effective. Then, Sandshrew uses double kick, sending Kangaskhan reeling - the fighting-type move is super effective against my normal-type pokemon. In retaliation, Kangaskhan uses dig (which I don't think it can actually learn) and becomes Monty Mole from Mario Strikers: Charged. However, Sandshrew has become either a Spheal or a Jigglypuff and tries to puff away. I get in a few hits before it's gone over a fence and into someone's backyard by the park. Wake.

Very well done. I am sure the next lesson will help you out. I am glad you're getting back into lucid dreaming.

      Good luck

Reality Check #1: Nose pinch (my normal one, which has helped me induced LDs in the past)
Reality Check #2: Push finger through palm (never done this before, but looking at numbers and letters won't help me, as they are usually pretty clear in dreams)

Trigger #1: Anything chocolate (5/14 dreams recorded so far) (usually my desert, even if just as chocolate chips in a granola bar)
Trigger #2: My friend Helena (4/14 dreams recorded so far) (I see her at school every day)

I'm horrible at doing Reality Checks. I always forget to do them, so I need to start remembering. Even though I feel weird while performing them.

Feeling weird while doing reality checks is normal. You are also confusing triggers with dream signs. A trigger is something you choose and a dream sign is something you see a lot. Like your friend.

      Good work

This is my 3rd time trying to post this:

Trigger 1: Picking up a ruler
Trigger 2: Drinking from a water bottle

EDIT: Yes! It worked (finally). I re-read the lesson on DILD, and I get the difference between a trigger and a dream sign now. I should be doing RCs for my dream signs anyway, and if they're triggers, it's double-dipping and not helping me as much.

Attempted my first WILD last night. This is how it went:

      - Fell asleep
      - Dreamt
      - Woke up at 3:15am
      - Wrote down dreams, went to the washroom
      - Went back to bed at 3:20
      - Tried to stay conscious (Failed)
      - Fell asleep until morning
      - Woke up, recorded dreams

Attempt failed, but at least I remembered to try. I can't expect it to work the first time around. Tonight, if I remember, I will spent a little bit longer awake.

June 20 (last night) Attempt #2
      Status: Failed
Reason(s): Stayed up for 10 minutes writing down my dream and could not fall back sleep, too late when I woke up (not long until I had to get up), and my brother's alarm kept going off, jarring me every 10 minutes.

Uggg.. All I am dreaming right now is in fragments that I can't even record in my dream journal. They're just flashes.

SUCCESS! I had a lucid dream. Very short, but still quite exciting.

      Method of Induction: DILD
      (I didn't even use a reality check!)

I am at my school, in my sociology classroom. It is the last day of school, and Ms. Mackenzie is returning some assignments. I am given one written in red pen, with a mark of 17/33; however, it is not my writing. When I point this out, Katie looks at it and admits that it is her writing. Then I find mine, which is a 22.5/33. I am horrified at the horrible mark and want to ask Ms. Mackenziewhether this is already in the mark printout she gave us or if this will make mine drop.

For some reason, I walk out of the classroom, heading for the washroom. On my way, I pass the boys' washroom, then a "mixed" washroom. I am about to open up the girls when I blink and return to the "mixed" washroom.

"This is strange," I think. And then it clicks. I must be dreaming. I concentrate on trying to change what will be behind the door, but I don't succeed, as i end up in sort of a washroom-like room. I have a brief glimpse of flying for a few moments, but I don't remember when.

(Some other stuff happens afterward, but I do not remember what it is.)
