      Dream Theater

Anybody out there like the band Dream Theater?

For those who are into progressive music of the heavy type would like them. Supposedly they've been around for a long time, but their music is generally too long for TV or radio.

James LaBrie (lead singer) lives in my town. Nice guy. Not a huge fan of their music though...

their guitarist (petrucci) is mindnumbingly talented...i definately like their general vibe, but i've never been able to enjoy the vocalist, no matter how hard i try.

      05 - Vacant
      06 - Stream Of Consciousness

      and

      05-panic attack

are the main songs i listen to every now and then.

you might like "liquid tension experiment". same guitarist, keyboardist, adn drummer...little more mellow, and mostly instrumental.

Yes they have been around for a while, since the 80s. Their first album (When Dream And Day Unite) was released in 89.

I own all of their studio albums bar the first and latest (Octavarium). Images and Words to Scenes From A Memory are all solid releases, mostly fantastic music. But Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence was a bit average, and Train of Thought was TERRIBLE in my opinion. I don't like what i've heard of Octavarium either, and i'm not a fan of the recent live footage i've seen. Basically, since Rudess joined the band, i've liked them less and less. I'm not blaming it on him, but he marks a change in the band, and the direction they took (which was the entire reason for him coming on board) doesn't sit well with me.

But like i said, their older material is great, classic stuff.

I also own all their albums, though the only ones I listen to are Images and Words, Scenes..., Once in a Livetime, and occasionally Train of Thought.
The rest never really caught on with me. But they're one of my fav bands.

I love the band all the music they make is pretty good. I just can't stand LaBrie, I love the music but I don't like the vocalist. I went to a concert and the voice was even worse. Some people do love him, so I think either you love him or you hate him

I can't say I'm a huge fan, but I listen to Dream Theater/ Petrucci occaisionally. There's definitely some cool stuff and some cool licks, but sometimes it gets old.
