I agree. That's great the books had such an impact on you. I saw the first movie before I started reading the books, so maybe that's why I like the movies more. They are just so epic. My hubby and I watch the extended editions all in a row about once a year, just before the Renaissance Festival to get us in the mood. Definitely my favorite movies ever!

Yeah I read the books, and deffinately find the films much better, I had to skip the songs too, just seemed pointless to me. Althoug RoTK had a few songs in it for some reason. Meh maybe fits in with the scene. Also I couldn't pronounce half of the names, but then I was 12 when I read the books. However I did enjoy reading the hobbit though, that was a cool book.

I tried really hard to give the LOTR movies a chance but, damn, they were sooooooooooooooooo... ooooooo... ooooooooooooooooo... ooooo Lllllllllloooooooooooooooonnnnggggggg that my head about exploded.

They would have been ok if they were editted to about half their length. I mean, damn they were long. I thought a lot of parts were cool but they had so much filler and fluff that I couldn't stand to sit through them.

Yeah I know what you mean, the Whole love triangle with Aragon and Arwen and Ewoyn? Took up a good hour in total. I don't even recall it happening in the book.

That's because it didn't in such colourful description. In the books there is something between Aragorn and Arwen but it isn't even close to the full out romance in the movie. They added that to the movie in order to attract a wider audience, as was said before the movie was even released, that there were plans to sharpen the relationship between them but without major changes to the original plot. Though, considering that Saruman dies on top of his tower and the entire Hobbit war is gone in the movies, no matter how little "sharpened" that situation is, it just adds to the list of how the movies mutilated the books.
I mean, the movies came out well and that's why they were popular but I doubt people who have read the books enjoyed them as fully as those that haven't.

Well you have to remember that what works in a book won't necessarily work in a movie. The books were sooo long and detailed.. I think Peter Jackson did a great job recreating them. Besides if the movies were any longer... ....

/me goes to die just thinking about that possibility.

Nonsense. I want a word for word transition. I don't care if it takes me a month to see it all.

Well okay.. I admit I wouldn't have a problem with extended Legolas scenes.
