Thread: Harry Potter: References (*Spoilers!*)

Note, I didn't come up with this. This is something I saw an HP fan write, and figured I'd share for the HP fan's here.

Harry - Jesus figure who comes back from the dead, dies to protect his friends, master of the Hallows (aka the Holy Trinity).

Deathly Hallows - Holy Trinity (Unbeatable Wand=God, Resurrection Stone=Jesus, Invisibility Cloak=Holy Ghost) - Reread the chapter with Luna's father from a theological perspective. It's like Hermoine's arguing the atheist perspective, Ron the agnostic, and Harry/Luna's Dad the theist perspective. Also, I noticed this idea of being a "Master of Death" in evoking all three Hallows - i.e. a belief and acknowledgment in the Hallows, and accepting these into your life, made you a champion over death and gave "everlasting life."

7 Horcruxes - 7 Deadly Sins (each owner of the Horcrux exhibited at least one deadly sin, and Voldemort exhibited almost all of them himself)

Dumbledore - God (accused of being cruel for raising Harry just to be a sacrfice for the "greater good", expected people to follow his plan without giving all the information, instead wanting to "test" them and let them discover the answer themselves)

Grave markings - Usually had a bible quote on them ("Where you're heart is, there will your treasure be also." Matthew 6:21 and "the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." 1 Cor. 15:26)

Snape and Dumbledore - The gospel of judas was supposedly found recently (it's not a confirmed gospel, there's a lot of contravery around it, but I'm sure Rowling's heard of it at least) and I saw a similartiy there between Dumbledore officiating his own death through Snape - the gospel states that Jesus told Judas to betray him in order to carry out god's plan.

Maybe this'll shut up the zealots who think Harry Potter is evil and the devil's work :p
