Omega is a really successful Hungarian rock band from the 60-70's and beyond. Here is what is probably their most popular song.

My Senior English teacher used to show us songs from movies like that, he had a lot of really good ones.

For me though, I like this one a lot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Onk5S-p_fU

This is such a good idea for a thread, and I have a feeling I am going to become a fan of some new acts because of it. My favorite non-English language musical act is La Sonora Dinamita. I am a big fan of Latin jazz. It is so positive and fun.

Though many of his songs are in English, a good portion of Carlos Santana's music is in Spanish.

I absolutely love that performance. I think it is by far the best Santana performance on video, but it is an instrumental. I like Latin jazz more than the Santana music with vocals.

I don't know, I tend to pay attention to the lyrics in music a lot, since I like to actually understand stuff. I don't know much about foreign languages, so the only non-english songs I listen to have no lyrics at all.

I dig Seu Jorge, he did the soundtrack for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
His acoustic covers of David Bowie songs in French are pretty sweet.

I like the way french rap sounds, and other languages that rap seems wierd to imagine, like hebrew rap.

I love Santana. Italian opera can be nice to listen to also. Some German rock stuff too maybe.

thanks Moonbeam for pointing out this thread. Here goes... get your paper and pencils out boys and girls. i will stick to 70s music for this at first and only what first comes to mind (as mind blowing) each in their own way.

*Can* (german krautrock band of 60-70s) Listen to Damo Suzuki's performances (yes, he is Japanese). Although he supposedly singing english most of the time, no one has ever really been able to make it out (therefore it counts as a foreign language!). f*ckin awesome band which inspired a whole host of 90s indie rock. easily always 20 years ahead of their time. listen to Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, or Future Days for starters.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x76Ce...eature=related
quote from listener, "Jesus, this is fucking mind blowing..and i'm sober."

*Popol Vuh* (german band, Florian Fricke = electronic and proto new age pioneer). Hosianna Mantra (east meets west spiritualality)... so tasteful, so beautiful, so meditative. either greek vocals sung by Korean (lol) or german vocals sung by german. the river here is deep and wide. not one track will ever tell the story.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DON-C...eature=related
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u7vzaqITMA
quote from listener, "Just beautiful music, played by sensitive people."

*Le Orme* (italian prog rock band highly influenced by early Genesis). counterpoint is the name of the game here. heavy bombastic instrumental sections mixed with some of the most heart-touching vocals ever.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v232l...eature=related
5 minutes in... turns me into a pussy everytime.

anyone else love youtube for this type of thing?

oh and Moonbeam (semi-off-topic-wise), have you listened to Opeth? un-f-real metal (beautiful and mind-numbing). i'd recommend Meshuggah too, but let's take it step by step, shall we? oh and Sigur Ros is great as previously mentioned!
