      MAG - Massive Action Game

I saw this on E3 a few days ago, and it looks absolutely amazing. I'm stoked for it, the massive battles just sound so great. For those who don't know, this is a massively multiplayer modern combat styled game that supports up to 256 people on a single huge map, with eight people squads for better coordination during the planning and execution stages. Here's the trailer for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Sounds like a great concept with amazing potential. I'm just worried about lag problems...

      Yeah....

Network activity goes up in a parabolic fashion... if you have 10 players connected, each of those players has to send their positions to each of the 10 other players. That's 10x10 = 100 messages.

      For 256 players that's 256x256 = 65536 messages

Lag is a big issue for this.

If they do big, dedicated servers for the game, then I don't think it should be too much of a problem. As long as enough bandwidth exists for the server (along with being powerful enough) to handle all the connections and manage the flow of communication between all the players.

Since this seems like it's going to be like, THE game to have on the PS3, like the game that absolutely everyone would buy if it turns out right, I'm assuming Sony will invest quite a bit of cash into their servers for it, so it should run pretty well, but only time will tell. I'm really hoping this turns out good, the concept is a really fun one.
