Well the author's purpose was to have the readers feel like they are Bella.

I don't know if it's objectively a good thing or not and don't care.

Ugh, don't get me started on Bella. As a character she's easy to identify with because you're constantly being told what she's thinking, and due to the tricksy first-person, stream-o'-consciousness dialogue makes you believe that's what you're thinking. It's further aided by Bella being a blank canvas in terms of personality.

She starts off with precisely 3 interests; cooking, cleaning and old english literature nor does she have any discernible aspirations for the future.

I wouldn't have believed it possible but over the course of the series she manages to become even more bland and replaces her previous thrilling hobbies with just one: Edward. Oh also she's a total Mary Sue whom all the cool kids at school just dig instantly, even though she's super-duper shy and gets really embarrassed easily (yet can somehow still make adequate small-talk and get all the guys there lusting after her instantly).

And the whole "abusive relationships are good!" message is just disgusting.

      Anyway, fangirl ahead.

You seem to be agreeing with a lot of our points. Yet you still like the books?

I'm not saying that they're no fun to read. Far from it. They're hilarious (for all the wrong reasons).

Seriously, count the number of times chagrin, dazzle or any reference to Edward being perfect come up.

      lul that is so true.

Not to mention the moronic thing of him "not noticing" the effect he had on people even though he was telepathic. The author points that fact out in her own writing. It is like reading a fan fiction where somewhere in there the author says "guys I know X isn't really like that but it is for the fantasy" or something. Or "I know it doesn't make sense but just go with it."

Kind of old news story, but I enjoyed this: http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/artic...26/story.jhtml

King not liking Meyer is good enough, but the comments section is the best, especially the Twilight fans trying to defend the books:

Wow someone needs to get over themselves. I think the millions of books Stephenie has wrote speaks for themselves. She can write."

Oh God. Look at his NOSE. If I were so unfortunate as to have a nose like that, I would never EVER insult anyone else. Because could ANYONE take that nose seriously? Can you imagine, King:"Hey, you know what? Even though you've sold millions of books and made billions of dollars, I still think your writing sucks!" Meyer: "Yeah, whatever dude. Your nose looks like its made of play-dough." So just shut up, mate. Or they'll notice."

Stephen King needs to chill. There's no need to talk negatively about someone who is very successful. Stephenie Meyer is a wonderful writer/author. I absolutely enjoy her books! I simply can't get enough! =D"

he's an idiot who cant tell the difference between a good book and a bad book. Stephanie Meyers is one of the most successful authors and she deserves to be one of the most successful writers. He's just jealous"

shatteredglass we all respect your opinion but COME ON!!!!! how can u critize a woman with three kids and a NORMAL LIFE that just wanted to write her dream?? besides she is writing like a teenager would think... you can't compare stephen king writing style with stephenie not even J.K Rowling... they have their own style... Stephenie writes another kind of literature... Stephen king is so old! how can he comprehend a style of literature to teenagers... get a life people (including stephen king) and btw buy and read twilight saga (although it seems like u already did it!!duh!) =D REYNIANNE YOU RULZ!!"

I read all of them and went from not knowing anything about it to loving it to being annoyed by the obsessive behavior of the characters. It's still good, but I'm pretty fed up by Bella's being like "I love you for eternity.", "I'll do anything for you." and Edward's over obsessive protecting thing over her. And the fact that it seems that nothing it the entire universe can stop them from being in love.
