*clears throat*

Too Human is a sci-fi, action-rpg that puts you into battles with loads of enemies. It also puts you into battle with loads of design flaws.

At it's core, Too Human is like really good pie, with a shitty crust. Yeah, there is good stuff in it, you just have to taste the burnt crust to get to it. A few design flaws really held this game back, and that's why I'm pleased they are developing a sequel.

Yes, I know that sounds weird. If the game is bad, why would I want there to be a sequel? Because they will most likely fix the bugs and design flaws, and Too Human will be worthy title.

Let's point out the pro's of the game first...

1. Highly customizable. You can have multiple character files, each with their own class and weapons. You get armor and weapon upgrades as you go along, which you can switch out to power-up your character. There is also runes (kind of like modifiers) that you can insert into your weapon, be it a staff, sword, hammer, or whatever, and it'll give the gun better stats.

2. Concept. Too Human, at it's core, is a good idea. A great idea, in fact. Who wouldn't want to be an advanced human race battling off hordes of enemies in a sci-fi world? The ideas of fluid combat, upgraded classes, and storyline driven combat is a wonderful breath of fresh air, but it falls short.

Here's some con's....

1. Camera. The way the controls of the Xbox 360 version are laid out, it forces you to use the right analog stick to use your melee weapon. If you want to attack forward, you press it forward, backwards, you will attack backwards, and so forth. The problem that lies here, is that without a right analog stick to control the camera, you are constantly tapping LB (re-center camera) during battle, which can be annoying. It also gets stuck in odd angles sometimes, because the designers tried to give the game a cinematic look at certain parts.

2. Difficulty. Too Human isn't difficult by design, it's difficult by it's flawed design. Many times you'll have a pack of enemies coming at you, and maybe one is an explosive enemy that explodes on touch. Of course, you'd want to shoot that enemy from afar, to not get any blast damage. Too Human lacks a good targeting system, and it's nearly impossible to target the person you want to sometimes. Also, every time you die (because there is no regenerating health, and health packs are scarce) you have to watch a 17 second (yes, I counted) cutscene of a valkerie coming down from the sky, picking you up, and going back into the sky. After the first 5 times, it gets annoying. Especially when you may die 5 or 6 times in one difficult part.

Overall, it's a game you have to play for yourself in order to truly understand it's design mishaps, and the gold that lies underneath it. I recommend it for a rental, if you are truly interested in the game. It seems to be a love-hate game, and you could fall on either side of the spectrum.

Final Score: 7.5/10
