How about that fucking trailer music, eh?!

For anyone who has no clue what The Watchmen is...: A brief Wiki quote for you..

Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. Originally published by DC Comics as a monthly limited series from 1986 to 1987, it was later republished as a trade paperback,[1] which popularized the "graphic novel" format. To date, Watchmen remains the only graphic novel to win a Hugo Award,[2] and is also the only graphic novel to appear on Time Magazine's 2005 list of "the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present."[3]

Watchmen is set in 1985, in an alternate history United States where costumed adventurers are real and the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union (the Doomsday Clock is at five minutes to midnight). It tells the story of a group of past and present superheroes and the events surrounding the mysterious murder of one of their own. Watchmen depicts superheroes as real people who must confront ethical and personal issues, who struggle with neuroses and failings, and who—with one notable exception—lack anything recognizable as super powers. Watchmen's deconstruction of the conventional superhero archetype, combined with its innovative adaptation of cinematic techniques and heavy use of symbolism, multi-layered dialogue, and metafiction, has influenced both comics and film.

I actually wonder if it will be good enough to watch. It may be looking great, but whether it can provide the scrumptious substance that made the book amazing remains to be seen.

Also: Rorschach looks awesome... same goes with Dr. Manhattan.

It takes a lot to excite me, but I'm drooling over this one. I read the graphic novel many years ago, and have revisited it a couple of times since. I've always thought it should be a movie. So far, the details look pretty true to the original... keeping fingers crossed.

From the trailer it looks like nice eye candy, but it's hard to imagine it will be anything more than that. On the plus side, it should turn a lot of kids on to the book, and hopefully Alan Moore in general. I only hope I live to see the first Promethea movie

It makes sense to fill up a trailer with eye-candy to excite young movie-goers. I've seen a few stills that suggest they are following the original story in some interesting details.

It's just hard to imagine how true they can be to the story in the space of a feature-length film, particularly one they've pitched to a studio for a PG-13 audience. And honestly, adapting a work like Watchmen, I'd rather they weren't too true to the original--it needs reimagining if it's going to translate any of the impact of the original. Anyway, we'll see--it looks pretty, if nothing else.

Whataboutit? It's a surprising choice. Not only is it quite old, but (and since I don't have Flash at work I'm recalling this from memory) isn't it also the theme of a Batman movie?

Trailer music rarely has anything to do with the music actually used in a film. I can tell you with almost complete certainty that the music for the actual film has not been written yet. In all likelyhood, not a single note has been written yet.

The people responsible for putting music to movie trailers pump those things out at a crazy speed, and often re-use material from other trailers. They are typically given extremely tight deadlines, and just keep using old tricks that have worked in the past.

It's a sick song. I love the Smashing Pumpkins.

And yes, it was also on the soundtrack for... Batman Forever... I think.

      Same here.

I LOVE this trailer. I got chills all over watching it! And of course downloaded the song shortly after.

Okay I'm not at all familiar with this comic. Who is that blue guy?? He looks awesome! And who's the dude who looked a lot like Robert Downey Jr. in that short bit? I guess he's the one with the cigar in the picture?

      It's definitely R rated.

They wouldn't allow it to be done in anything less, nor could it be done under "R".

It's far to real and dark of a story and too iconic and legendary of a book to adapt for profit.

I have to say I found the Watchmen graphic novel interesting, particularly the whole story-within-a-story thing, as well as the attitudes behind most of the superheroes. Rorschach and Ozymandias in particular were notable.
