Okay, I dont know if you guys have heard of these so just bare with me here:

      New Zealand Bands

Black Seeds - Dub/ Chill Out.
      Salmonella Dub - (Guess)
Shihad - Awesome Rock (these guys changed their name to Pacifier when they tried to make it big in America, apparently becuase Shihad sounds too much like Jihad)
      Shapeshifter - Drum 'n Bass

      Other Bands

A Tribe Called Quest - Hip Hop
Aphrodite - Jungle Drum 'n Bass
J 5 - Hip Hop (you've probably heard of them)
Method Man & Red Man - Hip Hop
Dark Tranquility - Heavy/Death Metal (Best albulm is Damage Done)
The Commodores - Funk Baby! (you must have heard of them)

Well I'm sure there are heaps more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

If I were to pick any of these bands, I would go with Shihad and Black Seeds, they are the shizzle my nizzle.

The first one that comes to mind is Hawkwind. They were big in the early 70's in Britain, but not so big in the U.S. They were absolutely incredible, at least the early line ups were. They were a psychedelic, heavy metal, jazzy, space rock band that did all kinds of bizarre things with their music, and they did it very well. Lemmy, the lead singer of Motorhead, was their bass player for a while, and Ginger Baker, the drummer for Cream and Blind Faith, was their drummer for a while. Their best albums are In Search of Space and Space Ritual Live. Excellent music. But their 80's and 90's albums sucked.

The Insect Trust- obscure psychedelic rock band from the 60's

      Ashra Temple- obscure space band

Camel- Trippy rock band from the 70's. Their leader apparently knew alot about how to do strange things with rock music. I highly recommend them.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

      Very good recommendations by O'nus!

here are mine. All electronica, but all very good (even if you don't like electronica)

Boards of Canada: You'd never believe it on first listen, but this is the most beautiful music I have ever heard. Enigmatic Scottish duo Marcus Eoin and Michael Sandison create music out of every day type sounds, which they've distorted and mangled using analog audio tricks. When you listen to it, it sounds familiar, even reminds you of things from your childhood you'd forgotten about. Not only that, but the structures of the songs are mathematically interesting in many ways. Any lover of music should check out this band, thoroughly.

Aphex Twin: Another good electronica artist. If you have a good way of getting music, check out the album 'melodies from mars'

Mouse on Mars: Very bizarre and awesome electronica group. I prefer their older works, personally. Good ambient music for those introspective journeys or acid trips.
Courtney est ma reine. Et oui, je suis roi.

      Apprentice: Pastro
      Apprentess: Courtney Mae
      Adoptee: Rokuni

100% of the people I meet are idiots. If you are the one guy in the world who isn't an idiot, put this in your sig line.

There's some awesome recommendations here. i've written down some of the ones i haven't heard of to check out tommorrow.

If you check out any of the following, check out:

Shpongle- amazing organic trance. they very well may change what you thought was musically possible

check out the songs "Dvine Moments of Truth" "Around the World in a Tea Daze" "The Sixth Revelation" "Room 23"...

      and some others.

      Infected Mushroom- just plain trippy

check out the songs "The Shen" "Tasty Mushroom" "Sailing in a Sea of Mushrooms"...

Dillinger Escape Plan- (mike patton) experimental metal- ONLY the album Irony is a Dead Scene

Aesop Rock- one of the few "hip-hop" artists i listen to. completely original.
check out the songs "Water" "Float" "Antisocial"...

Bjork- pretty mainstream, but her newest album Medulla is done completely with voices (no instruments). absolutely mind-blowing.
check out the songs "Mouth's Cradle" "Triumph of a Broken Heart" "Who is It" ..

      Apocalyptica- adding my vote

Blonde Redhead- Melody of Damaged Lemons, AND Misery is a Butterfly albums

      Mr Bungle-adding my vote

      John Zorn-avant guarde

      Mars Volta-adding my vote

Yes- psychadelic rock band from the 70's.

Aphex Twin-adding my vote "Outside Kick Ass Violin Solo" is amazing

Opeth- semi-mainstream metal band. the Blackwater Park album is killer, and the Damnation album has amazing ballads

The Flaming Lips- Yoshima Battles the Pink Robots album

      Puya- Spanish Metal Band

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum- experimental metal/everything "Sleep is Wrong" and "Cockroach" are good songs.

      Coal Chamber- metalish band

Philip Glass- modern composer- has some fresh stuff

that's all i can think of for now..

"Other Emcee's" & "Rockin' the Spot" are two of the best songs I've heard from them
I think everyone's heard "Freestyler" & "Up-Rockin'", they were done to death

Very gritty, you have to be in the mood for it. Btw, Brady, you would love this

middle 3 lanes are covered by a stage. All sorts of obscure punk / rockabilly /
garage bands from around the world come to play. $10 cover, $7 all night bowling,
diner food and a bar. Plus you can bowl while the band is on. My favorite joint

Yeah that's it, but they're the Immortal Lee County Killers 3 now, they got a keyboard player. I saw them at some tiny bar a while back.

That bowling alley sounds incredible though, I wish we had a place like that around here.

The Dismemberment Plan you can go to their website and hear some of their stuff www.dismembermentplan.com

Also if you are looking for a really nice calming band search up Iron and Wine they ( I don't know if I should refer to the band as a he or they) are very nice. Sort of known. Not sure.
